Riddell Lacrosse MDIA Team of the Week

I happy to announce that Riddell Lacrosse is sponsoring a new Team of the Week contest on USLIA.com for the remainder of the 2006 MDIA regular season.

I will solicit nominations each week via the USLIA.com message board and/or email from MDIA coaches, players, and fans. I will pick one MDIA program as the Riddell Lacrosse Team of the Week from all of the nominations I receive.

The primary criteria for selecting the Riddell Lacrosse MDIA Team are successful teams that "rise above the competition and elevate their game to a new level." Secondary considerations are MDIA teams that attempt to promote lacrosse and/or strive to preserve the integrity of the game.

The deadline for nominating a team each week is Tuesday evening at 9:00pm (EST). Nominations should be concise (100 words or less) and include game results from the past week of play for the team in question.

The winning team will be announced no later then Friday on USLIA.com and that program will receive a Riddell Lacrosse prize pack which will include one custom Riddell Lacrosse Helmet.

Special thanks to Riddell for sponsoring this new award and best of luck to all MDIA teams the rest of the season across the country.

So is this one helmet or the whole team getting outfitted with Ridell's? Also, is this prize handed out each week, or is it based upon nominations and "Team of the Week wins" accumulated throughout the season.

It maybe because I am tired, but this write up is a bit confusing.
What color is Jack Bauer's blood? Trick question. Jack Bauer does not bleed.

A. Only one helmet (not one for every member of the entire team).

B. The prize is awarded once per week through the end of April (conference championship tournaments).

I'm current soliciting nominations thru next Tuesday...

I think that the recognition for specific teams is almost as important as any individual prize that someone may get.

Sometimes teams that may not make it to the tourney will have great weeks and they should be recognized.

According to Sonny my Runnin' Utes are a perfect example of both of these constituencies. After a dismal start to the season we've shown that we are back to, and possibly beyond our talent level of last year. After a close win over Arizona (Mar. 5) and a victory over UVSC(B) (Mar. 8) we beat Florida (Mar. 13) convincingly 16-2 with many of our talented freshmen getting playing time and points. Our starting goalie had a ninety plus save percentage, with plenty of quality shots from the Florida sharpshooters. Our newly rearranged offense has begun to gel and I expect to see only improvements.

Thank you for the opportunity to nominate my team.

Nominating Duluth Lacrosse Team

Postby laxguru41 on Tue Mar 21, 2006 6:02 pm

I would like to nominate the University of Minnesota-Duluth Men's Lacrosse team. After a rocky start to our spring break tour of the Northwest by losing to Oregon, we came back to win our next three games including two overtime victories. Both OT winners were scored by our third line sophomore midfielder Nate Goertz. We are looking forward to our next games against Michigan and Oakland.

I'd like to nominate Missouri State for this honor. After an aweful start to our season, we've put together back to back wins and most recently defeated Eastern Michigan 9-6 on Saturday. In addition to the beginning of our turnaround.... our team has recently been presented with the opportunity of starting a youth program in our city this summer, which covers "B) promoting the game of lacrosse." This is a huge step for midwest lacrosse, considering 4 years ago we were still scraping together a collegiate team, had no high school teams (now there are 2) and no sign of lacrosse within 200 miles.

I also think that UM-Duluth had a very impressive week last week - I don't think anyone expected them to go 3-1 on their west coast trip, and they certainly "elevated their game".

in the future perhaps we can have a Division A and a Division B team of the week. Just a thought.

The Missouri - Rolla team had a very good weekend at the crossover in Macomb Illinois. They went 3-0. They beat Nebraska-Omaha 14-3 and then in the same day went on to beat a tough Memphis team 19-11. The third game was not played due to a forfeit from Northwestern, but it was a very good and self-proving weekend for the UMR team.
