Whoa- that's certainly not what I expected.

Sounds like either Texas played a great game or Chico was having a really bad night. Either way, this may not be the best place to say it, but it's good to see that there's an LSA team putting up some fight.

Well so far Chico's only real argument for a ranking is their 6-5 win over Utah - the Ute's 1st game of the season and Chico's 3rd. Texas' only losses are a 3-goal against Colorado and a 4-goal against Oregon, along with a 1-goal loss to Oregon State, who themselves are 7-2. It wasn't that unexpected.

Are you kidding? Oregon State lost to Stanford, and they aren't exactly world-beaters these days. This loss was definitely a surprise, especially since Texas lost to Oregon State.

So one one-goal loss (Texas to OSU) to an unranked team is going to really drop Texas that far in your mind, whereas playing the #7 and #6 ranked teams in the nation to a decent score might not counteract that? Chico lost by 9 to #20 Chapman (who will be moving up though) and by 5 to Cal Poly. Also, by your own reasoning, Chico only beat Stanford by 1 goal, so if you are going to compare scores or particular losses, it still comes out as not that big of a surprise that Texas won.

If you're referring to the 6-goal spread more than the win, then yes, it might be a little surprising to some people. However, as far as the win goes, going into it looked to be two teams that were decently matched.

I don't think there's any real reason for them to- if they're ahead by that much, I would expect them to start playing some bench. They've got another game on saturday, and all anyone is expecting from them on this game is a win- I don't think anyone is expecting this to be a nail biter.

Either way, I'll of course be there since the field is less than three minutes from my house.

I couldn't agree more. Winning by 6-8 goals is just as impressive (perhaps more impressive) than winning by 15. Many folks will disagree, but in my opinion I respect a team who builds a commanding lead and pulls their guns off in the second half or especially the 4th quarter. I've witnessed several lopsided games and I've been on the receiving end of a 30-1 loss and I've always thought that type of destruction serves no purpose. I like to look at scores by quarter and I respect a team or coach who has the maturity and confidence to pull their starters early enough to allow ample playing time for the bench. It makes the game more enjoyable for everyone. Unfortunately the importance of the polls may force some coaches to run the score up. Poll votors should consider an 8 point win just as good as a 15 point win. I expect replies to the contrary and I'm sure someone will bring up the tie breaker scenario

Nick Dean had around 5 goals or so, including one between the legs. Texas Tech's goalie (~14 saves in the game) kept the game close in the first half as Tech was only down 4-2 at the break. The second half was ugly though. UCSD scored 7 goals before Tech's offense had a possession in the 3rd quarter. For the game, I would say Tech only had about 15 shots and won only 2 face-offs.

Appears Chico is a tad overrated based on the Texas game. Or

I don't see how they are overrated. What are they ranked, 19th? Can you honestly name a team ranked below them that deserves to be ranked above them? They had the ball for approximately 5 minutes against Texas and played atrocious. Most teams play a bad game every year and perhaps they will learn from that loss...maybe they won't. They beat Utah, and although Utah is playing much better right now, you cannot dismiss the fact that Chico beat them on a neutral field.
