PNCLL Week #7 (3/15-3/21) -- Predict, Scores & Discuss

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Wed Mar 15, 2006 1:49 am

Wednesday, March 15th
Texas 10 Chico State 4 (at Oregon)

Thursday, March 16th
Oregon 9 Chico State 3
Minnesota-Duluth 12 Washington 5

Friday, March 17th
Utah 9 Cal-Poly 8 (OT) at UW
Southern Oregon 9 Linfield 8

Saturday, March 18th
Cal-Poly 16 Washington 3
Minnesota-Duluth 11 Utah 10 (OT) at UW
Pacific Lutheran 20 Lewis & Clark 2
Western Oregon 15 Albertson 13

Sunday, March 19th
Minnesota-Duluth 8 Cal-Poly 7 (OT) at UW
Utah 14 Washington 8
Southern Oregon 15 Albertson 8
Linfield 10 Lewis & Clark 3

While the quantity of games is low in Week #7, the quality is as high as it gets as the Northwest continues to host some of the MDIA's best in great OOC match-ups. Uniquely for the Northwest, some of the best games up here don't even feature a PNCLL participant in Week #7!

The Oregon Tourney continues Wednesday night with a neutral site game between Chico State and Texas. Then on Thursday the event comes to a close when Chico battles Oregon.

The Husky Invitational Tourney kicks off Thursday inside the warm, comfy confines of Dempsey Indoor Center on the UW campus
(http://www.washington.edu/home/maps/southeast.html) with the Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth at Washington. Also participating this year are two other rising MDIA powers -- the Cal-Poly Mustangs and the Utes of Utah. There should definitely be some great lacrosse at this year's HIT in Seattle, and all PNCLLers are invited and welcomed to come to the event and watch.

The B Division has a few very important contests. Albertson is well-rested and invades Western Oregon and Southern Oregon for a pair of conference games which are crucial to all three schools' playoff hopes. The Yotes (2-1; 2-1) could seize outright possession of second-place in B-South with two wins and a Linfield loss at Lewis & Clark, but could also drop all the way to fifth-place with two losses. The WOU Wolves (2-3; 2-3) could also move up from fourth with a win, but a loss by Western Oregon could severely imperil the second-year program's return to the post-season. The Raiders (2-2; 4-2) can also move up with another big win, which SOU must surely covet after Central Washington broke their impressive three-game win streak last weekend in Ashland.

Linfield (3-1; 3-3) has traditional rival Lewis & Clark (0-4; 0-4) in Portland and its own chance to solidify second-place in B-South before heading off to Utah for OOC games the following week. The Pios would love to play the spoilers, however, and break into the win column for the first time.

PLU (1-2; 3-6) has played a brutal schedule the first month-and-a-half of the season, and hosting Willamette (0-6; 0-7) could be just the tonic the Lutes need to get back on track after the tough loss to Montana a few days ago. Like L&C, the Bearcats are still seeking their first win of the '06 campaign, and showed a little competitive improvement against Whitman last week.

Kyle will preview the A Games at Oregon and Washington later.

I said it last week and I'll say it again.

Albertson's trip to Western and Southern Oregon is looking to be the most important weekend of the season for all three of these teams. Western could bounce right back in the picture with a win, and whoever loses between Southern and Albertson will probably be outside looking in come play-off time (especially if Albertson loses to Western). All these scenarios seem equally likely at this point.

And yes, the Yotes are well rested. However, does rested also mean rusty? Sometimes long breaks aren't beneficial.

I won't be doing a preview this week... We have a player that was injured in a car accident and I lost a day yesterday, and quite frankly, the Madness takes precendent during Spring Break.

Oregon 9
Chico St. 3

Sloppy game, lots of balls thrown around on both sides. We just came out flat and never really got into our final gear, but we got the W none the less. Good luck to chico the rest of the year. Oh and Nate played lights out in cage today, he had a great game with a lot of nice saves.

Linfield 8, SOU 9. The whole game was back and forth. Linfield took a two goal lead with about two minutes left but SOU fought back and scored the game winner with six seconds left in the game. Thanks for coming up Southern. Good game.
