I'm only going to make predictions for three games.

VA Tech vs UCSD: The Hokies are good, but UCSD has the better team IMHO. UCSD by 4

Claremont vs San Diego: The Toreros certainly aren't happy about losing that #1 spot to the Cougs, but the Cougs have motivation of their own -- Three years of motivation! Claremont by 1, in OT

UCSB vs UCSD: With all the dancing going on in the top ten teams this year just about anything could happen. UCSB is already feeling the heat due to their losses to Michigan and CSU. They aren't going to put up very well with another loss to a top ten team. Rain is also forecast for Saturday, and could be a major factor. I think UCSB will win it by a hair, two at most.

Oxy is playing CSU-Fullerton Thursday night at 7. Not an official MDIA opponent so add it to the list only if you want to I guess.

If rain becomes a factor in the UCSB vs. UCSD game it might favor UCSD. While UCSB seems to be far more talented throughout there entire roster, they are not invnscible. UCSD seems to be scrapy, couple this with inclimate weather and home field advantage and the game might swing in UCSD's favor.

Why would bad weather favor one team over another? I don't get it.

My team has played both ucsd and ucsb, and I have to tell you, while ucsb is very good and talented, ucsd was a much better team. ucsb may have more skill, but ucsd plays a complete team game. ucsd by 4

I beleive that in general a faster more athletic team is hurt more by bad weather. Slicker conditions and unsure footing will slow a team down, and make for a more sloppy game.

Are you implying that the people from SAN DIEGO will be able to better adjust to the weather? (tongue in cheek)

I don't really think the weather will have that much of an effect in this one- except maybe on the sticks themselves. I haven't seen the field they're playing on- but I know the field they usually play on at USD is nice turfgrass- shredded tire dirt included. I'm sure the actual stadium has at least the same.

In looking at the Sonoma v. VA Tech stats from Sunday's game, looks like there may be some good news/bad news from the Seawolves. GOOD NEWS: Brian Johnson scored a goal. Looks like he is back awful early from a broken hand. Should be a shot in the arm. BAD NEWS: (possibly) Starting goaltender Pringle did not play. Possible injury??? NOt what you'd want with CSU rolling in to town.

Is it too early to make sure we're covered for live game updates?

UCSD 17
Virginia Tech 7

Virginia Tech's goalie kept this game close, as UCSD could have put in 20+. Nick Dean absolutely dominated Virginia Tech's defense. I believe he went 4g,7a or 5g,6a

It's true- I was there. This one was of the best performances I've seen from Dean probably all year. He simply created the offense.

This is the best I've seen UCSD as a team play in a while- they still need to iron out some of the fundamental mistakes, but if they play with this type of offensive potency, they have a solid chance of taking UCSB on Saturday.

I agree that UCSD has an excellent chance to defeat UCSB in San Diego on Sat. But I think the key is UCSD's defense not their offense. If they allow 8 or 9 goals, they will probably lose. UCSB gave up 6 to CSU, 5 to Cal Poly, and 8 to Michigan. They usually win when they score 8 or 9 because their defense doesn't give up much.
Also, I saw Va Tech last year in MN and they were pretty bad. They couldn't clear the ball and were on defense almost the whole game against UCSB and their goalie was great in that game too. The Va Tech game with Sonoma was not a good indicator because of the absence of starting all star goalie Warren Pringle for Sonoma.
Speaking of Sonoma, I think if Pringle plays and Brian Johnson is now back and reasonably effective, I think Sonoma should dispose of the CSU team that I saw in Santa Barbara pretty easily.

You, sir, are a dedicated fan. I think a lot of teams would be lucky to have fans that not only know the game and their team so well, but openly push for them in public (and with class)- and I'm not being sarcastic here.

When people make posts on here that are backed up with knowledge and coherent reasoning, it makes this forum just plain awesome- thanks to all the folks that make normal life a little bit difficult to pay attention to.

Cheers and a tip o' the cap.

Santa Clara at Chico

Postby WCLLPREZ on Thu Mar 09, 2006 5:42 pm

The Chico-Santa Clara game scheduled for Saturday, March 11 at 2 PM has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled this season.

Wet fields and impending weather forecast for rain and snow over the weekend led to the cancellation.
