i hear you all finally ripped up your old green carpet. Is the new surface similar or is it turfgrass (like the h.s. for the selc tourney)?

Don't know this answer 100% as I've only seen it once for the alumni game this past fall but I want to say as of right now it has football, soccer, softball, band, and lacrosse (though now the inner-lacrosse lines are orange rather than the blue and white we've had in the past)...still spray painted though which was a mistake by the school since we use the field more than any other sport and spray paint just makes it look bad.

I think there's room for a couple more sports to add their lines.

Oh well...it's an improvement...no more shin splints for the entire team by the end of January.

i also remember that old turf used to shed and the pieces of carpet got all over the place and in our eyes
was that part of the strategy?

I still have scars and little green things in my socks from that game last year... I think it is definitely home field advantage strategy

I guess you all have not been back to GT in awhile....

I wish we would change over as well but no time soon especially when a kid in a Intramural basketball game punted a ball into the ceiling after a foul call. Well, 'Pele Jordan' hit a water sprinkler head and over $1,000,000 damge later (ruined 2 hoops courts, an aerboics room and the lighting above the pool which is about the NCAA's) we may have used up any additional funds for such a new turf...

Hey Brad, did Rec sports sell the turf off, piece by piece, like the AD did with the old turf in Neyland?

That would be a tremendous fundraiser, don't you think?

Wow! What a bad turn of events. Tech could really use a new field turf. Maybe it will be in the near future.

The little pieces of turf WERE part of our strategy, known to UT lax players as "turf monsters"...I think I went thru 100 pairs of socks in 4 years. After a couple uses you have to throw them away. Should have got a sponsorship with a sock maker...

Sales of the turf were not made.

Oh and for those who are curious...directly underneath the turf was a thin layer of plasic mesh followed by gravel and dirt. Nice padding don't you think?

Is it true that the original reason they went to artificial turf was to stop the cheerleaders from grazing??

You went to school in Storrs! Kara Wolters, Shea Ralph and Rebecca Lobo. Easy there. Come down around the end of February sometime and try to practice while the girls are out sunbathing around the Rec pool.

Yeah, it was just an old joke, told by Minnesotans about Iowa, but it seemed appropriate. Besides, from what I hear all the girls in Knoxville are Volunteers! (No payment required)
