Back on track? Granted, they lost a game, but they deserve at least enough time, perhaps a few games, to maybe develop a trend before you jump all over them. One trend I have noticed this season is that you never give a winning team the credit they deserve. Pay attention to what's going on in Ohio.

The Sonoma @ Arizona game should be a close one. I haven't seen Sonoma play recently, but from what I hear they are quite good and the addition of Jon Wiley (2nd leading scorer in WCLL last year) should help them a lot. It will also be interesting to see their replacement goalie for 'Mez (big shoes to fill). I was very impressed by the Arizona squad in their victory over BYU in Vegas. Granted, this was fall ball, but they looked sharp. I pick Arizona by one or two particularly because they are at home.

I think the UCSB vs. Whittier game will definitely be in favor of SB. Whittier beat us in a scrimmage by 3 or 4 without 3 of our starters in. Granted, it was a practice-type situation, but my teammates agreed that they are very good, they don't make a lot of mistakes, they pressure well on D, but they didn't look as amazing as we thought they would. From what I've read about SB, and based on their performance so far, I expect SB to win by about 3-4 goals, if not more. This may be a bold guess, but there it it, I said it.

I think that Arizona is going to hadle Sonoma quite easily, considering they are playing in a tough environment (Zona does not lose often at home), and I also feel Arizona's D has a decisive edge over Noma's attackmen.

Another quality game will be UCSD against Cal Poly. I think that Nick Dean will run circles around Poly's D, and with Tim Casey and Kenny Williams out, I dont think Poly has firepower offense to be victorious.

I also think that UCSB will beat Whittier this weekend by a comfortable margin, 1) because their defense is ridiculously fast and disciplined, 2) I dont think that Whittier's middies will be able to keep up with the depth of SB's middies, and 3) I think that SB's patience on offense will frustrate Whiitier's D.

I also like Cal over Chico by a goal in OT. I think Cal's D will hold Chico's offense at bay and I have a feeling that one of Cal's defensemen will score the game winner in OT.

This is poised to be one of the most competitive weekends of west coast lacrosse. With SB-Whittier and Noma at Zona we will see some good games. I think that SB will beat Whittier by a comfortable margin. They are the best team in the west right now and despite Whittier's varsity status, they will not be able to keep up with SB's offense.

SSU and Zona are both top teams with the potential to go all the way this year. With the loss of Gomez, it is hard to say if SSU will be able to hold Arizona at home. I predict Arizona to edge them out in a close one.

Chapman was a ranked team. So far they have beat a B team by 7 and lost to an unranked team. They need to step up or they will be out of the top 25 real quick.

It's coming down pretty good here in LA right now. Our practice at SC has been cancelled for tonight. If I had to put money on it, I doubt the Whittier game will happen but that's obviously not official. I would bet that unfortunately most games in SoCal will be cancelled this weekend.

Does anyone know if the Chapman vs. UCLA game is still on for tonight? If you know anything please post or PM me. Thanks.

Earlier this season, and the season is all of two weeks old...

Obviously the loss of Jon Wiley is evident in that LMU had a difficult time against a Division B team.

I am sorry, but lets not make an underhanded comment about B teams just because they "happened" to play well. Last season with Wiley (and others) LMU was taken to an overtime game with the DIVISION B Claremont Cougars, and also a fairly close game against Pepperdine as well. It's not a mistake that a team like Pepperdine came out and gave LMU a great game. Recognize it, let it go... do whatever, but give credit where credit is due.

I'm not even saying your wrong. I just think its innappropriate; let them lose a couple before calling them out. And when and if they do, give some credit to the winning team.

I just have to make a comment on the idea of cancelling a game because of rain. You Californians need to have backup fields to play on when it is raining. I play for Oregon, and this fall we went down to Stanford only to find out the games were cancelled because of a little drizzle. We practice in rain almost every day. It really pisses me off that games are cancelled because of rain. Honestly, it could be a lot worse. To all teams that will potentially cancel a game due to rain, here's my advice: Find a turf field (or an all weather field), and have it as a backup plan at all times. It is simply inexcusable to cancel a game due to rain. You have teams travelling from all over the nation to play you, and rain cannot be a factor in whether or not the game is played.

Unfortunately there are not that many all weather field options in Southern California, seeing that we get an average of 15 in. rain a year vs. 50in. a year in Oregon. If it were up to the players, I have no doubt there would never be a rescheduling do to rain. Lately, it has been uncharacteristically wet. Not much we can do when the schools don't want to muck their fields.

Unfortunately, JT, the real world doesn't work that way. School officials will make fields available to club sports teams, but they will not allow their fields to be potentially damaged when the condition are ripe for that to happen. It's a matter of money.

Finding a backup field is not as easy as you make it sound. First of all, just speaking for the Bay Area, there aren't that many turf fields around, because they're just not needed. We don't get 280 days of rain down here like you guys up north do. Secondly, club sports teams would probably be last in line for a school's turf field (if they have them) if other sports may need them first. Thirdly, for those places that have turf fields, another school's club sports team desire to use the field might be even farther down the food chain.

Coaches of hosting teams do the best they can. Sometimes, it's out of their control. Have a little understanding and take a chill pill.
