So you are glad you didn't drive "5 1/2 hours to see BYU lose"?

Any idea who played in the goal for BYU tonight?

I'm pretty sure Powers played the entire game. He was good in the cage, better out of the cage. Very active on clears and ran a slew of shut-off plays on our offensive inbounds. Not a look we see too often (at least not throughout the entire game).

Good one, Matt. I just hope people understand where that came from before they get all bent out of shape.

I guess I'm going to have to go back to my video from the UC Davis tournament in '90 to see us beat Poly. BTW, Marc, I still owe you a copy of that footage...

A huge win for Poly and for the WCLL. I hope that the game against Chapman on friday is as exciting as this one.

I had to translate that last message. Originally it read:

"Chapman Chapman Chapman Chapman. Chapman Chapman Chapman Chapman."

Did I stutter? Can't give a man a chance to congratulate a team on a good win and hope that the next game they play is also a good one while also giving props to the mighty WCLL? You interpret statements about as well as Fox News. Oh yeah, I went there.

WCLL - 6

CCLA - 2

PCLL - 1
GRLC - 1
LSA - 1

this would only happen at the expense of Oakland or Virginia Tech. One of them would have to fall back, and no one else can be more impressive than the last WCLL team.

I do agree with Dan here though, The WCLL is STACKED this year.

Check your math. You have 17 teams listed an neglected to include the UMLL AQ.

I'd hate to bring this up and it would probably not happen, but if BYU doesn't turn it around , they could be in danger. The RMLC does not get an AQ so any team from that conference has to qualify as an at-large. If you look at their schedule, there are a number of tough teams on it. A few more losses in there and they are squarely on the bubble, especially if they were to lose to a lower ranked team such as Arizona, Florida St. or GA Tech. Food for thought.

That could be interesting, and I am sure there would be a lot of moaning if that many WCLL teams went to the big dance. If WCLL teams keep beating the powerhouse teams from every conference this year, maybe people will moan a little softer. Huge WCLL vs the world games this year are:

Michigan vs UCSD
BYU vs Arizona
Michigan vs Santa Barbara
arizona vs michigan
Arizona state vs Colorado
Arizona vs Lindenwood
Sonoma vs Virginia Tech
UCSD vs Virginia Tech
UCSB vs Colorado
Oregon vs Sonoma
Oregon vs Cal Poly
Chapman vs Florida State
Sonoma vs BYU

Game on!

That was the point. Unless the CCLA or the SELC only gets one in, the WCLL will not get 6 in.

I am sure you hate to bring it up. :D But there is no way that a team who lost to UCSB in OT and lost to a good Cal Poly team loses the rest of thier top 10 games. I wouldn't be surprised though to see them drop out of the top ten if they don't beat Michigan this weekend, or Arizona in a week. Jason Lamb is to good of a coach and the players are too good to not be in Plano in May.

Just playing devil's advocate, but if both BYU and UCSB have slipped a little, they could both drop lower in the polls. I think one of two things needs to happen- either the teams that took UCSB to overtime need to be boosted in the polls, or UCSB needs to be sliding down (and I do understand that these polls didn't reflect the BYU Poly game).

If UCSB doesn't perform well vs. Michigan and CSU- i.e. if they lose in anything other than a close game- I think it puts them in the range of anywhere in the top ten- not just nestled in the top five.

Clearly Chapman and Cal Poly are having better years than last year- but is it fair to say that their games are solely from their own improvement, and unrelated to a possible decline in ability from some of the perennial powerhouses?

Chapman and Cal Poly have only played one "WCLL Powerhouse", UCSB. They both lost. How does UCSB's "decline" help Cal Poly and Chapman if they both have already lost to UCSB?
UCSB's decline: last year UCSB lost to BYU by 4, this year they won.
Last year UCSB beat Cal Poly 9-2 this year 9-5 (pretty close). Last year UCSB beat Cal 10-3, this year 12-4. Last year UCSB beat Chapman 12-4, this year 10-9. With the exception of the Chapman game, which players say was their worst, UCSB seems pretty close to last year.
I'm sure there is a decline, if you look for it, but it's not much.
Next, I am sort of surprised that everyone is picking CSU tomorrow. CSU has a pretty young team and they have not played anyone yet. They beat BYU by one goal in fall ball. I am hoping for a good effort by both teams. It should be close. I think the experience that UCSB has had in close games gives them an edge.
If UCSB doesn't perform well vs. Michigan and CSU- i.e. if they lose in anything other than a close game- I think it puts them in the range of anywhere in the top ten- not just nestled in the top five.
Finally, if BYU loses to UCSB and does not move down from 5th, why would a loss by UCSB to CSU (or Michigan) move them from #3 to the bottom of the top 10? A seven spot drop is huge, and for one loss? I don't think so.

I tend to agree that BYU probably will turn it around, but, again playing devil's advocate, let's just suppose that they lose the games against the teams that are currently rated higher than them, Michigan, CSU & Sonoma. That gives them 5 losses. They would probably have to face CSU again in the playoffs and let's also assume they lose that since CSU is rated higher. That's 6 losses not counting the D3 games they have to play. That scenario might be tough for them to hold on to spot between 10-13 that they'll need to get an at-large.

What if they lose all of those games by 1 goal? Do you reward a team who goes out and schedules one of the 3 toughest schedules in the country, plays well, but just doesn't get it done? Past experience tells me that losing close games to teams ranked above you doesn't move you down that much in the polls.
