Bluevelvet says, "Chapman is young and talented. That usually means inconsistant. They played pretty well against UCSB. But they lost. With their schedule, they should have a pretty good record. The level of their performance against higher quality teams, remains to be seen.[/quote]"
Interesting point, mainly because Chapman had the ball more, won more face offs and took more shots against UCSB. Frankly, they out played them, but the little things hurt them the most, which makes sense with a young squad playing their first game against the National Champions. UCSB is very good squad, but they got very lucky to leave that game with a win.
On another note, what happened in the UCSB vs Poly game? So many people talked up Poly to upset SB, SB was missing a few starters, and they still won by 4 goals? It will be interesting to see what Poly can do in the game against Chapman next friday.

The official stats show that both teams took 30 shots and both had 14 saves. UCSB had golden opportunities to win in regulation but didn't get it done. They had the lead and the ball with 22 seconds left but an illegal screen call and a complete defensive breakdown allowed Chapman to tie the game in regulation. The game was close in all aspects. It was not dominated by either team. To portray the game as dominated by Chapman is pure spin. If any one got "lucky" it was Chapman--in making it to overtime.Chucknorris23 wrote:Interesting point, mainly because Chapman had the ball more, won more face offs and took more shots against UCSB. I also said that "Chapman was for real" after the game. But, this was immediately dismissed by the pundits as an effort to pump up UCSB after the close game.
When you have a team as talented and inexperienced as Chapman, USUALLY they are inconsistent. Maybe Chapman will be the exception to the rule. With their schedule it will be difficult to see how Chapman fares against top competition.DG wrote:
I know Bluevelvet feels that Chapman is for real, but I don't see many voters around the country sharing that sentiment...at least in the short run. Chapman could destroy everyone this weekend, and it would make UCSB's victory vs. Chapman look that much better.

As for the UCSB-Cal Poly game, obviously, UCSB played better in that game than they did against Chapman. It should be noted that the key injuries suffered by UCSB in the Cal Poly game were a problem in the second half of the Chapman game as well. It should be interesting to see how Chapman and Cal Poly match up against each other.
I think that UCSB will have to play better than they did against both Chapman and Cal Poly to have success against BYU, CSU, Michigan, Colorado, UCSD and Sonoma St.

Although I'm glad to have reached "pundit" status, I need to clarify a couple of things. First of all, my comments about Bluevelvet's opinion were 3 days after his post, and in a different thread. I'm being quoted out of context here. What I did say was that the voters might not agree with him in the short run. I didn't immediately try to discredit anything that was said, nor did I imply that Chapman wasn't for real. All I said was that we don't know yet.

If it was my intention to bash the Gauchos, or dismiss the opinions of their fans, I would certainly have done it way before this.

I thought you might enjoy "pundit status". However, you said exactly what was quoted. It was a direct electronic quote, nothing out of context.
You may not have meant what was implied. I accept that and believe your explanation.
The point was that I thought that Chapman had alot of talent and was for real. I still have reservations about their lack of experience but they have talent and they are good.

No. I will be at the UCSB vs. CSU and LMU games. I will be at Cal vs. Sonoma game on Saturday. Will you be there?
I could post your updates on the new "Live action game reports" thread if you don't already have a partner.

I'll be at the Pit with my 2 oldest boys. I have 2 reporting crews at the ready, but thanks for the offer.
Anyone else out there going to be at BYU/UCSB on Monday?
