I have one suggestion/question regarding the Highland Park HS stadium. All of the photos that I've seen so far show the stadium with football lines. Since the field is field turf, I am not sure how difficult it is to change and/or erase old lines. Obviously, they will have to paint lacrosse lines on the field in order for us to play. My question is - will they remove the football lines? In my opinion, the spectator experience goes way down when you're watching a lacrosse game on a field that is lined for football. It's visual overload, and makes it very difficult to follow the game when you can't tell which line is the box, halfline, endline, etc. For any spectators new to the game, it will be very tough to explain to them the various rules.
No shot of this-Come on it's still Texas, where football is still, and will always be king. The chances of this happening would be the equivalent of letting the Pakistani National Cricket Team play on Yankee Stadium.
As for media coverage-I think we need to focus on the lax community as a whole. Who cares about the locals-lax has been around for decades, it's on tv all the time now. People are aware of it. They have at least have heard of it-but will the local , non -ax community in DFW care? Nope. I think we need to show the rest of the lax community. Especially the East Coast lax snobs, that we're first class and professional in appearance. We need to show the kid on Strong Island, who is thinking about being different and has heard of the Nomas and Michigans. That you can still play MDIA and still have your own premier event. It may not be the Linc, but here's hoping that Highland Park and Us Lacrosse can make the event another step forward. I can't comment on Blaine, as I was not there. But Fenton, always put on a good show, especially championship day. Nice field, cameras, suds, a beautiful pressbox.
My point-I worry more about the lax coverage of the event. God Bless Sonny for what he did last year, but a blog is a blog. I think the league took a step backwards (in terms of visibility) with the lack of media coverage last year. Yes I know all of the politics involved-I am just disapointed that we didn't have game articles and pics. (Although I wish I could have seen Sonny type out in the cold on bleachers-that would have been a hoot!). But as someone stated-let's not get too ahead of ourselves, with the local media.
