Reggie Bush and Alex Smith

Postby Sonny on Thu Feb 16, 2006 12:54 pm

Alex Smith, the No. 1 overall pick in 2005, and Reggie Bush were teammates at Helix High School in San Diego. If Reggie Bush becomes the No. 1 overall pick, it would be the first time in NFL draft history that two players from the same high school were picked No. 1 in back-to-back years.

IMHO, that is simply amazingly mind boggling.....

I wonder if the Helix high school football talent level dropped after those two left? That is pretty amazing!

That is about as good as Randy Moss and Miami Heat Point Guard Randy Moss going to the same High School. There was an old Nike commercial of Jason Williams throwing an alley-oop to Randy Moss, just another great Nike commercial.

It's been fun watching highschool football in SD. The sustained level of talent has been impressive. Back in my day (that's starting to get pretty far back now) El Camino HS had both cornerbacks go as top 11 draft picks(5th and 11th; Darrel Russell was the #2 pick that year). Rashan Saalam (21st) and Akili Smith (3rd) (yeah, they had horrible pro careers but were impressive enough to get drafted high), Leon Bender and La'Roi Glover were from the same era, followed shortly by Ricky Williams (5th), more recently Kellen Winslow (6th).

To have two #1 picks on the same team, however, is amazing. Helix was in the section finals 6 out of 7 years (winning 3 of the 6, includng a win over my alma mater in 2000), with the streak finally ending this year.

not only are Reggie Bush and Alex Smith from the same high school, but they had a wr Todd Watkins (byu) he went to high school with them too. and he is an amazing wr, he is super fast! he will be at least a third round pick.
