They've been quietly among the PNCLL's best, losing a close game to Oregon early last season...

I don't remember a "close" game againt OSU early last season, maybe I'm missing something...clarification?

Probably meant SFU, their game was 7-8 with SFU winning at the beginning of last year.

You're both right, I did that off the top of my head and I was a bit frantic. Thanks for catching that.

Anthio

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Fri Feb 10, 2006 11:35 am

After reading the article posted on the ULIA.com main page, I'm guessing that SFU has moved Yuen to Middie or Attack, after three seasons as one of the best long-poles in the PNCLL. Anybody (perhaps from WWU?) care to comment or enlighten?

I noticed that too, and thought he was a pole in past, but then I thought maybe he is just that raw? just takes a couple of clears to get those stats, not too impossible...yeah I'll go with raw

I would venture a guess that this would not be the first time Anthio scored 3 points in a game with a longpole. I would be shocked if they gave him a shorty - he is just too wicked between the lines as an LSM or defender.

I could be wrong, but I think he probably picked up those 2 goals and 1 assist on clears or face-offs, as Tim suggests. . .

Anyone at the game want to clear this debate up?

Yuen I believe scored his points with a short stick, he switched once or twice during the game but his points definitly came with a shorty. He fit in quite well on offense with his great stick and lightning speed and quickness, he will continue to put points up. SFU's long poles didnt look like they were missing him though, they were outstanding and allowed nothing in the middle. I think only one WWU goal came off a forward playing on a long-pole, the rest were shorty defenders. Cant say im an expert, but in that one game, SFU seems that they are already surpassing there team from last year in all areas of the game, they have a loaded offense, which would have reached 30 goals if not for the WWU goalie.

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Sat Feb 11, 2006 12:48 am

UW 14 PLU 13 (OT)

Another thrilling, physical one-goal game between the Lutes and Huskies, filled with momentum swings back-and-forth throughout. A pair of Frosh out of Issaquah HS team up on the game winner, with Attackman Matt Robson (2g, 2a) scoring off an assist by Nick Tierney (5g, 2a) with 2:49 remaining in the first sudden-death.

Great game Lutes! Good luck in Cal next weekend.

game stats and a longer description will come on the pncll a little later..... but long story short, Western Washington pulled off a heartbreaking, come-from-behind win in the fourth quarter beating western oregon 7-6..... can anyone say Central washington last season??? we just can't seem to hang onto a win against those out-of-staters......... great game WWU.

As reported on PNCLL.com:

Oregon State 7 Boise State 5

Looking forward to reading a report on this one -- if the Broncos can hang with the Beavers in Corvallis than I'd say BSU will definitely be a factor in the playoff hunt.

The PLU - UW game was not the prettiest lacrosse game, but it was incredibly hard-fought and really was a typical battle between these two teams. There was never a lack of effort from either side, and in the end the home team took advantage of the energy created by a very raucous crowd and scored the OT goal after a nice double-team created the game-winning fast break.

It was painful to watch all-league midfielder Matt Kennedy go down with a nasty ankle dislocation late in the game-- knowing that it might have been his last game for the Lutes. His lightning-fast shoes will be hard to fill.

I think when Mr. Cone has ample time to work with this raw but very talented Husky team they really have potential to make the playoffs this year.

Good luck Huskies in the regular season. Good luck as well to the Lutes on their ambitious trip down to California - playing 3 top-20 teams in two days, including #1 San Diego and #3 Claremont.
