17-7 SFU
SFU came out with jump in the first quarter scoring the first goal, but at the same token seemed a little uneasy in their play. WWU shocked SFU by taking a 2-1 lead after the first, largely due to the excellent play of the WWU goalie. SFU picked up their game in the second taking an 8-3 lead into the break and seemed to play better in the rest of the game winning the second half 9-4 for a 17-7 win. If not for the play of the WWU goalie SFU could have easily reached 25 goals.
WWU:Led by a very good goalie WWU has lots of potential to succeed at the B level. They have 3 or 4 players that can really let the ball fly and should have success filling the net. Although, scoring may not be such an issuse when you have a goalie that should be able to keep the score low against most teams. Their defense was effective in keeping SFU to the perimeter and making SFU work that extra bit to get inside. One thing for sure, is there is an obvious passion in this team as they were cheering loudly for their sqaud every chance they could. One flaw would be their offense needed more inside play and try and get the ball closer to the net.
SFU: Being their first game of the season, there were some obvious kinks, but as the game wore on they seemed to develop chemistry. Although SFU should be happy in the win, they may be disppointed in their overall play, having a poor 1st quarter. Their offense seems potent this year with many players that can fire the ball in the net and a long pole defense that seems tenacious and heavily skilled, not to mention they have all-star goalie Aaron Pascas. Watching these two goalies was a treat, as they both made some great saves.(especially Noah Symington of WWU, who was busy) SFU's flaw seemed to stem from their mental preparedness, sporting a young team they had a few nerves.Missing some easy passes because they were already thinking about the next move. but as i stated before, as the game went on the team just got better and better and show some excellent ability all-around, they sould be very competitive in this year's A division.
Both teams should be commended for the conditions they played in. The rain was pouring down non-stop and the wind was just vicious blowing the icy cold rain right into the players. Thank you to both teams for providing such an entertaining game in harsh conditions. Also thank you to the rest of the spectators that still came out in these conditions to support their team!

WWU's Goalie
I got a chance to play against WWU's goalie in a tournament this fall. The guy is incredible. Perhaps the best goalie in the PNCLL B Division.

Update
Just got a report from Tacoma that has PLU "handing it to" Gonzaga 10-5 after three quarters. If the Lutes hang on and win this would certainly prove to be quite the upset.

Final
Gonzaga mounts a furious 4th quarter comeback, ties the game 10-10 with only 15 seconds remaining. But PLU Sophomore Ryan Brown scores in sudden-death to give the Lutes an 11-10 OT win over the Zags.

Speaking of good goalies in the B division, there are indeed some great ones, many that go unnoticed or unheralded, I won't pump my guy up here, you guys know I think he's good. But Cuevas at L&C? Best goalie I saw last year personally and he got honorable mention, so that is testament to the high quality goalies that are around in this competitive league. I know that without certain plays by ours too, we would've lost games by 30 goals practically, yeesh. Looking forward to being continually impressed by the high level set last season (and apparently still being held high) by our B division goalies. Keep it up boys.
