From Northern Michigan:
UST 9 Ferris State 3
UST 6 Calvin 4
Despite being pretty tired and beat up from the old school turf/concrete combo from our earlier game, we managed to put together a decent game against Calvin; although a lot closer then we would have liked. We certainly have some things to work on, but feel pretty good about starting the season off well. hats off to all the talent we faced from the CCLA. We still have 3 OOC games to come later in the season against Dordt, Harding and Creighton. It will be interesting to see how those turn out.

any new guys stand out for UST or was it the Tornell, Julis, show- similar to last year. Nice to see UWEC coming along nicely.

I had #20 Iverson and #23 Lee each scoring 2 goals in our game, and not positive about the other two, but I think #2 Julius had the post-penalty restart shot from up top. #5, #21, #12 also had several shots each. Definitely not a two man show.
Here were all the scores:
Northern Michigan 13, WI-Oshkosh 1
Calvin 7, WI-Eau Claire 4
St. Thomas 9, Ferris State 3
WI-Eau Claire 5, WI-Oshkosh 0

The play was pretty well distributed with all of our rookies contributing on some level over the course of the weekend. We had stellar middie defense and our entire D looked strong with team clearing ability that we've never enjoyed to this point. We're excited about our new talent pool and as always look forward to solid veteran play.

You're defense, and defensive middies especially, really contribute. #47, UST's Lpm is really aggressive and an excellent player. Watching his gameplay pretty much rocks my world.

Anyone from UST want to shed some light on this statement found n the CCLA forum? If I were a part of the UMLL, I'd be upset if one of my teams failed to fulfill an obligation to a tournament.

If they left early they may have had conflicts with their players schedule with classes and felt obligated to make it back to twin cities. We are students, and for some teams school is more important than lacrosse in some situations just my two cents.

While it was a choice to by UST to not play the game, maybe the word "forfeit" is too strong or gives the wrong sense. It was a long day of lacrosse and while my guys hoped the rematch would happen, the way our game vs Northern Michigan became the championship worked out just fine.
I can understand why UST didn't feel like sticking around.

Just a clarification, the discussion is in the CCLA forum.
St. Thomas didn't like having to pass on the final game but made the decision in light of some other circumstances. The first being that that game would have been our 5th of the day-a day that spanned from a 6:30 wake up (after arriving at the hotel around 1 AM) to that 5th game starting at 10 PM. Nobody had really had a chance to even eat. Also, after the first two or three games, some of our players were pretty banged up. Considering the fact that our last three games were technically scrimmages, it didn't seem the wisest to force players to risk greater injury for a scrimmage. We are grateful to our hosts for putting on a terrific weekend, and we have nothing but respect for all the other teams there; awesome competition. In the end, the championship game was represented by two extremely deserving teams. Again, we were hesitant to make that decision but it was the best choice for our team in light of the rest of our upcoming season.
P.S. Eau Claire looked like a MUCH improved team. I look forward to following their successes this spring.

EC has been working extremely hard on improving. This weekend was an eye opener for a lot of teams, including our own guys, and it feels good to be noticed by a perennially strong team like UST. We're really gelling as a squad for the first time in a while.
We look forward to UST coming to Carson Park in April, too...

Hopefully Mitch Davis will come around in between the posts, I played with him in high school at chaska and he is a heck of a LSM he led our team in GB's the two years I played with him. But I know he will be a great goalie very soon.
