GRLC Action (Feb 1-7) - Discuss Games/Report Scores

Postby bste_lax on Mon Jan 30, 2006 4:59 pm

I will normally put these up the Wednesday (Wednesday through the following Tuesday) but since it is the first week, I will put it up early.

Only a couple games this weekend but the first for the GRLC:

Saturday, February 4
Texas vs. Arkansas - @Stillwater, OK

Sunday, February 5
Baylor at Nebraska - CANCELLED

Arkansas' first game in the USL MDIA against a tough Texas team and Nebraska opens the season at home in their first game as a Division A team against LSA's Baylor. EDIT - Baylor @ Nebraska has been cancelled, see below for reason why.

Side note, I try to keep the links section on the Iowa site updated and for the most part I was able to find everyone's team page but if you could double check to see your link is right (I know I am missing Truman State along with St. Louis sites. I was also only able to find some generic club sport page for Nebraska-Omaha). The links page can be found here: http://www.uiowa.edu/~hawklax/links.html

the Nebraska vs Baylor game is cancelled, thier school will not let them make the trip because they do not have enough drivers over 21 to take the required breaks in who drives

Kinda makes Kyle's mandated motorcoach thing sound more reasonable now doesn't it.

that would be true. Although we have to keep in mind how difficult it is to finanance things like this. Budgeting the team is not easy on its own and especially when schools dont provide large budgets to work with.

Ask the school if they can help you (along with other organizations) negotiate a deal with a specific company to provide these services at a reduced rate in exchange for exclusivity, advertising, and guaranteed minimums. Have your sport club administrator check with the athletic department for leads.

Baylor has a fine tradition of this kind of thing. Most teams would have found ways to make it work.

This is true....we had a game scheduled against them for this weekend. Luckily we found out early enough that they wouldn't be able to play it so they backed out.

We were all warned about setting up a game against them, at the fall meeting as well so maybe now we will all learn to avoid trying to play them!

Good game from Texas. They're a good team with an excellent coaching staff. Hats off to them.

UT jumped up on us early, and we never caught up. I was, however, happy to see some signs of potential as the game went on. A lot of missed ground balls, and our middie defense killed us. Still, for a first year program in it's first game (we played no one in fall ball), I'd say we played alright. We'll get better as the season goes on. Good luck to Texas, and thanks to OSU for hosting the game.

Baylor...

Postby devildog0351 on Sun Feb 05, 2006 3:01 pm

Baylor never scheduled Missouri State this weekend. Oklahoma State asked us if we wanted to try to play Missouri State and OSU one weekend if things could be worked out to play in Stillwater. Missouri State never contacted anybody from Baylor about the game. Therefore we did not schedule a game against them this year. It would be different if we were ever contacted personally by Missouri State to schedule a game. If this had happened, then people at Baylor would of known about this so called game against Missouri State that was supposed to happen on the same date, at the same time we were scheduled to play OU.

ps:
Baylor and Nebraska are scheduled to play at the Big XII tournament in Plano anyways, so they will get to play us.

Respectfully,

if anybody wishes to discuss things with me personally I can explain what happened more if you would just pm me. Thanks a lot!

Matt-

You guys did cancel on us last year as well as Kansas State. Their may be valid excuses that you can give people, but they are still just excuses. There is no possible excuse that I could give people to miss a game, and so we will never miss a game. We find a way everytime. It's unfortunate that games do get canceled because it tends to screw up other teams' schedules.

Eric,
I understand about last year, and we are at fault for that. We are not arguing that point. We take the blame for that 100%. I agree that anything we say about last year will only be excuses. Again I apologize for last year. It is unfortunate and we are paying the price for it.

My post was only to inform everybody that we never once agreed to play Missouri State, or never heard from them at all about scheduling a game this year. When we submitted our schedule to the LSA this year we did not have Missouri State on our schedule. I would be glad to forward you a copy of the LSA master schedule. Oklahoma State asked if we would be interested at all in possibly playing Missouri State. We never agreed to a game against them. That is what I was trying to say.

Again I apologize for last year, and we will continue to pay the price for our coaches actions last year for years to come. We just don't want to get blamed for skimping out on Missouri State since we never scheduled them in the first place.
