Film studies

Postby the lax on Mon Feb 14, 2005 3:20 pm

In the Michigan press release, Coach Paul mentioned the team would be going over films in preperation for their opener.

Just curious, how many teams utilize teams film studies?

When I was still at GU, we would watch good D1 film tape as well as ours just to show guys what to do and what not to do. We never really had good tape of our games just b/c the views were from the sidelines. Now, I think they have it from all sorts of good angles and even televise it on the campus channel.

We encourage use of d1/d3 game tapes for our players as evidence of what they should aspire to be, and what can be done with sufficient work.

We have started taping select practices for coach review on what to work on.

We use game tapes of ourselves and upcoming opponents for scouting reports and improvement.

But we are not yet as accomplished at it as say Michigan /BYU/UCSB/Sonoma to name a few.

Film Study

Postby Troy Hood on Tue Feb 15, 2005 1:24 am

We've committed much more to using "film" this season than we have in the past. We have film every Monday night after dinner; whether it's scrimmage footage of us or our latest game.

Film doesn't lie; it's one of the best teaching tools a team can have.

we would watch D-1 games if we did not have tape of the team we were going against. i know when we played teams like BYU, CU and Michigan we would watch tapes.

At Wash U we will be filming all of our home games from the press box.

I have been exploring video editing on my PC computer which has Microsoft Media Center on it w/ video editing software with the greatest intent of editing games in bits and pieces. I had some DI lacrosse games from last years championships that I recorderd directly onto my computer and I have been quite frustrated with the whole editing process. It is extremely slow laborious process to take out the commercials.

Long story short, looks like I will be hitting the fast forward button a lot...

Coach,

I find it easier to stop recording during commercials.

SB has a fully video library off all their games from the past four years. Cal has a collection that goes back even further.

How many teams, if any, trade film. I know that it's happened before when conference teams play out of conference, they'll trade video with their league mates. Does that still go on?

I know that we have asked for game tapes and got them, also teams have asked us for game tapes. Since we are on this topic, to teams trade scouting reports, or do you surf the web for team info? I know we do both.
