Division B, how many teams are sent this year.
Being that there is nine conferences in DB, how many at large bids will be available for the national championship. Are there going to be 3 bids to highly ranked teams? If so, are there any regulations for these teams that did not win there conference? I heard something like playing 2 OOC games qualifies a team, but only a rumor. So what’s the deal here?

I believe, but I'm not 100% sure, that they're going to use the same plan they had in place last season. The Division B tournament will be 9 teams and therefore won't have any need for at-large bids, However, if a Div. B conference champion can not go to Blaine/Dallas, then the top at-large team will be given the opportunity. I believe it's only those at-large possibilities that need the 2 OOC games.

The B tournament will expand to 12 teams this year. With that expansion comes 3 at-large bids, so it will be important that teams play the necessary out of conference games to qualify if they don't win their conference.

Wow.. that's big news... I don't think I heard about that yet. That's great to hear. Gonna be a heck of a lot of lacrosse players in Texas or Minnesota.

I think the current plan is that they're not going to tell anyone, and you just have to show up in one state or the other and hope you picked correctly.

You don't know just how glad I am to hear that! I know it was rather disheartening for a few of the top teams last year who didn't get a chance to go to Blaine because of the eight team limitation. Should make for some really great OOC Games this spring.
And, might I add...

B Division OOC Games
Are B teams only required to play TWO OOC games to qualify for an at-large bid? Or is it it 3 games as in the A Division?

I was very interested to hear the response to this question after the article in the US lacrosse mag came out. (A little off topic but.........) In addition, I think the OOC games will really help to shake out the rankings a little better. Its been tough to know the true strength of the B conferences the past few years. However, there's many teams on the B side that don't want to travel and do anything and everything to avoid it. This will definitely help to raise the bar a little.

CMU is still scheduled to play Rochester on 4/7, but I just pulled the FSU game from the schedule at their request.
Another possible game is Grove City (CCLA) at Liberty (SELC) on 3/11.
It definitely made a big difference when the national tourney was expanded to include ~3 teams that have played OOC games.JW wrote:There are going to be some great OOC games this year.
