Dose anyone know what prompted the recall of all of Brine's new XP3 helmets?

the letter says it still meets all regulations, so it must be something that breaks after short use

Here is the recall link:
http://www.brine.com/index.php?section=media&page=detail&pr_id=21&PHPSESSID=caff08dc7609c296dc5f53f55110343c

From the release:
"Although our helmet has passed all NOCSAE testing and safety standards for lacrosse helmets, we are not satisfied with its performance and we are therefore recalling all Triad XP3 helmets....We are only recalling XP3 models that were first shipped on or after December 15, 2005.To confirm if your helmet is an XP3, the following are identifiable markings. See attached photo for reference.
- Facemask is attached outside the jaw
- There are two screws in the front of the jaw vs. one
- Only one logo on the visor in jewel form vs. printing
- Sticker call outs noting XP3 on the facemask and under visor"

Like you, I do not know the exact reason for the recall.

On two occasions this past month I noticed on a few brand new Brine helmets and women's face-masks that the plastic near select screws was cracked due to the force of the screws being tightened.

From my woodshop experience this is likely caused by a cone shaped screw shaft being tightened too much. It could also be avoided with use of a bolt and washer.

Again, I do not know if this is what the recall is about, but if you notice this on your helmet, it's been my experience that helmet manufacturers are cooperative in regards to repairs or replacements.

My source says it was an issue with the plastic.

Amen. I heard that was why Duke lost last year...the Lacrosse Gods would not allow a team sporting those things to win it all...
