I don't think there's anything wrong with the officials originally calling the technical. 95% of the time it'd be the correct call. But once they realized it was medically related, they should've rescinded the foul.

Tommy Penders is a veteran of the UConn basketball program, before they became nationally famous. I was a big fan growing up and remember watching him play and listening to games on the radio.
I hope he recovers fully and an alum wishes him the best!
(And that was horrible not to rescind the T. What were they thinking - that he was faking the whole stretcher bit?)

Well, he did come back for the second half!

However, I'm sure it was all legit. Regardless, when he left on a stretcher, the technical should have been reversed.

maybe refs thought he had a heart attack in the process of protesting the call.

I think that the Conference needs to go back and erase from the box score and the record books. While I could understand them calling it, i can't understand why the lead official did not stand up and reverse the call. Call it heat of the moment or whatever, but when you see someone taken off on a stretcher with O2, you have a serious issue that goes beyond the sport. While he did come back in the second half, there is a good chance that he could have had a Heart attack.

let's say kobe bryant bumps a ref, BAM technical foul. but after reviewing the tape it is reveiled that kobe's shoe laces were untied and dangerously laying across his shoes. kobe takes one big step, trips over himself, and reaches for the ref to retain his balance. should the 'T' be rescinded??

i dont think the refs would take the time to look at the tape and see that his shoelaces were untied. however, i think he would avoid the suspension and fine that would typically occur for bumping a ref. although will all the kobe-hating going on these days who knows. he might not be the best player to use in this example.

I was at the game. It was a scary situation. It's good to hear that Coach Penders is doing ok.
