Colored cleats cheat?? Why?

Postby JosueSays on Sun Jan 22, 2006 7:12 pm

Had to come up with a clever alliteration... ANyway, yesterday I was talking to a Senior lacrosse player on our team, and he told me that only black and white cleats are allowed in college games. I'm a freshman, and I never had any problems with my red cleats in high school(they weren't called out at this year's A&M Tournament either), so I'm wondering if it is somehow against the rules? And if so, why? Thanks.

I've never heard of such a rule, and I study the rules pretty hard. Ask him to show you in the rules where they are prohibited.

(The way things are going, though, we may only be a year or so away from a rule that says "All players on a team must wear the same color cleats, and they must be white, gray, or a dominant team color.") :D

It's possible that he just doesn't like them because you attract to much attention to yourself! :)

I think the ref got confused with other job as a member of the fashion police.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty ridiculous... Maybe it was a rule back in the day? I was pretty sure it was a mistake but I just wanted to make sure before the season. ANyway, thanks for the replies.

Does this fall under the hazing rules?

I do think that white cleats should illegal since they do make you look like you run faster than you really do and wearing white after Labor Day is just plain wrong.

Isn't it always after Labor Day of some year or another? :D

Anyway, my understanding is that the rules against wearing white between Labor Day and Memorial Day have been relaxed. See http://www.drdaveanddee.com/white.html

I have seen Serial Mom. That is all I need. The lessons learned from that movie will last a lifetime.

Were the cleats longer than 1/2 inch? Then they would be illegal.
