Check out this schools discipline list. A dry campus is just the start.

Wow, so if I'm a pregnant witch who gets drunk and decides to have an abortion, I'm up to about 150 reprimands, $2500, lots of community service, and POSSIBLE administrative withdrawal!

Given all the stated rules regarding interaction with the opposite sex, I am very curious how one would avoid being reprimanded for being in a motel room with a member of the opposite sex by gaining the proper permission??? "Sir, I'd like to have a group bible study tonight but my dorm room is just too small and doesn't allow females. May we please have permission to get a motel room tonight if we promise not to watch any R rated movies"? Yeah, I bet that works!

Kinda reminds me of an old West Michigan joke;
Q. Why don't Christian Reformeds have sex standing up??

A. It might lead to dancing!

6 reprimands for going to a dance? 12 for seeing an R rated movie? I thought most of these students were over 17 anyway? Doesn't sound like a school for me, and it's amazing how much it sounds like something you'd find in a repressive Mideast emirate. Do the girls here have to wear burkhas? Just shows that a lack of individual freedom under the guise of religion is a worldwide phenomenon.

Far be it for me to defend Liberty, but it is well within their rights to restrict individual freedom at their own private educational institution. The students at Liberty at there under their own free will and as far as I can tell they are only enforcing these rules to LU students. I imagine they know exactly what they are signing up for when the agree to attend Liberty.

You might not like or agree with these rules or think they are outdated/extreme/unnecessarily restrictive -- but that doesn't mean they are illegal. The big difference between Liberty and a "repressive Mideast emirate" is that they are a private insitution, not trying to use the govt. entity to enforce their views on others.

I agree that it is their perogative to enforce these regulations for students that choose to attend Liberty U. What's a little troubling is it is reflective of a mindset that seems to have particular sway in the current administration, eroding the long-established separation of church and state, and individual liberty, i.e. a woman's right to control her body, "intelligent design" being foisted on public school districts (the Dover, PA case and the state of Kansas), etc.
While I might not choose to go to Liberty, I do choose to live in the US. Democracy does not necessarily mean that "majority rules" in all aspects of society. The protection of minority rights is one of the foundations of our Constitution.

I just find it interesting that abortion and drinking are on the same level of reprimand.

Also, what's with the "Entering the space above ceiling tiles" one? Is that really a rampant problem?

A $500 fine for an abortion? Ha... I feel bad for their Dean's Office. Good luck enforcing some of that stuff.

Honestly, I read this sheet and all I can think of is, "Screw Liberty University..."

On a side note, Jimmy Carter (who I will be the first to admit was not the greatest president) has a great book out right now called Our Endangered Values. He talks a lot about many of the religious issues that I feel like this topic may start.

I never knew he was such a full blown baptist? And I never knew evangelical baptists used to be only about the teachings of love through Jesus? I never would have gotten that from the current perception of baptists...

Students choose to attend schools. Each school has a code of discipline/honor to varying to degrees. Some are more lenient than others. I agree with Sonny that it is the perogative of the private institutions, such as Liberty, to have their own. Though it may appear to be Draconian, it ensures that the students at Liberty University behave in the manner that the administration (Rev. Jerry Falwell founded the school) is looking for.

I know that BYU has a rather strictly enforced honor code.

Ah, let's not forget when he was President and admitted to sinning by having lust in his heart. The next Democrat in the White House after Jimmy lusted in more places than his heart!

If you think Liberty has it rough....
check out the haps over at ol' Bob Jones University.

This place makes Liberty look like backstage at a Kiss Concert.

They dont have a code of conduct online, but just scroll down and click on the General Expectations, Dress Code, and Res Hall Life.

The dress code is bad, but the Res. Hall Life is NUTS.....I will let it speak for itself, but check out the portion on "What Not to Bring"

As for BJU, two things:

1. I sure hope that noneof the parents own stock in the holding company that owns Abercrombie & Fitch. Funny how hypocritical stock portfolios can be.

2. Guns on campus must be stored and with a trigger lock. Interesting.

Again, your choice of college is just that, a choice.

For the record, The University of Tennessee-Knoxville has been a dry campus since 1990. Though, you can drink while tailgating on campus and Alcoa has a contract with the athletic department to remove glass from Neyland Stadium (for recycling purposes) following each and every home game.
