Thought I'd get this started.

I think the game with the most "history" would be Mizzou-Wash U. Other good rivalries being Illinois-Illinois State (Past high school buddies going at it) and Iowa-Illinois State (Not as "premier" but always a heated contest stemming from 2 CCLA Div B Championship games and a bunch of 1 goal games although many of those players have left).

But as for "Game of the Year", I think Mizzou-Illinois in my opinion will match the #1 and #2 teams of GRLC. I also think Mizzou-Lindenwood would be close second with St. Louis kids going at it plus Troy vs Kyle in the box coaching.

Mizzou v Lindenwood is my vote for the Div A game of the year.

However, being a Div B team I really don't find this to be the GRLC game of the year. The game of the year isn't about the two best teams going at it, although thats important. The game of the year should be about upsets, past experiences, and implications on the national scene. Yes, Mizzou v LU has this and will be a terrific game played in Hunter Stadium. I am more interested in April 1st matchup of Creighton and Dordt. Its two teams who played close games the last two years and one again last fall. The game last fall was a 5 or 6 goal victory by Creighton over the nationally ranked Dordt team. The setting for a second upset and a trip to the national charts is set for Creighton. Its two of the best teams in the GRLC B and national implications. That is why it gets my Div B game of the year.

If we are looking for upsets, I do not mean to toot our teams horn. But USD lost to both creighton, and Dordt in fall ball by one goal in each game. If there is going to be a big upset this year, you should watch for USD to pull off an upset.

After last weekend it should be obvious that the game of the year will be Lindenwood vs. Illinois.

Maybe the Missouri vs. Kansas game will be good this year. :D

I don't know what TheLoo is sipping on (hatorade perhaps). It is sad to see such a disrespect of Mizzou's program which helped to get the GRLC rocking. And from I post I saw earlier, I wouldn't really say that Mizzou has the worst facilities because they aren't and they get the job done. Stankowski is a nice field with similar turf that can be found at The Edwards Dome and it is what Soccer Park used to have as well.

The GRLC game of the year could include any number of matchups. Illinois vs Lindenwood, Lindenwood vs. Mizzou, Mizzou vs. Illinois. Illinois State and Iowa could also have a good showing against any of these teams.

On another note, it is obvious to see that Mizzou is having a rebuilding year. And everyone knows there is a lot more parity between the higher ranked teams. My hats off to Mizzou for scheduling some tougher games this season. It will only help them to improve in the long run. Winning conference games are what count to make the playoffs and that is all that really matters.

If your bringing up the turf that the rams use, keep in mind they have been trying to get rid of that stuff for a while now. While it does produce some pretty fast playing there have been so many injuries as a result. Mike Martz has been lobbying for a new surface for quite a while, and the NFL has been looking into the conditions that thier pro players have been dealing with. Also didn't soccer park get new turf because the old stuff wasn't cutting it. Time to revamp. I liked playing out on the natural stuff they had during a crossover tourney last year or the year before better than the turf which appears to have a downhill slope on one side. They had plenty of room for the tournament and all the fields had good grass, not the patchy dirt grass fields we all know and hate.

Are you kidding me?!? You are talking about the fields at Mizzou right? Those fields had so many holes and weeds and crap. I loved how all the fields were next to eachother, it was a great atmosphere, but come on "yourmom" those fields weren't that great. I remember playing on Field 3 last year and there were some clumpy patches and litter all in it. Our team actaully walked the field before hand and got rid of branches and other debris.

I know Mizzou has 2 different fields they play on.

They have their grass field which Corbin is talking about which is sort of crappy, very bumpy.

They also have a turf field which I never got to play on. Here is a pic:

All the crossover games were played on that grass field a little off campus. Kinda wish we could have played on Stankowski (sp?) field.

Compared to some of the grass fields (if you want to call them grass) that i have played on they were not that bad. And i seem to remember seeing people playing frisbee barefoot in between games so it couldn't have been that horrible. I just remember when I played on the turf it wasn't much to brag about. Playing on thier football field instead would have rocked. And I don't remember it looking like what it does in the picture.

Mizzou's football stadium turf was replaced last year with the new turf that everyone loves (Nexturf, I believe is what it is called). I understand that the older carpet turf does cause injury and what not, but so can playing on a grass field that has holes in it. Beggers can't be choosers. The word on the street is that the Stankowski field will get the new turf, but who knows when that is going to go down. Also, there is a slight slope in the field, which is for runoff purposes when it rains. It doesn't affect game play any. Bottom line, Mizzou doesn't have the worst facilities out there.

Look for Wash U to do some damage in the GRLC as well. Looking forward to seeing them go head to head with Mizzou.
