How much work do you do outside the office?

Postby bste_lax on Fri Jan 06, 2006 2:23 pm

Just curious as to how much work people do outside their office? Sort of directed to the 9-to-5 crowd but aside from the "40 hours" you put in each week, how much work do you do at your house/apartment on top of whatever you do at the office?

None. They pay me for 40 hours a week and that's all they get (if that).

Perhaps a more relevant question...

How much 'lacrosse-related' work do you do while at the office :) ?

Maybe and hour or two on the weekends that I'm on call. I fix things over our VPN if possible and just document my time and they pay me for it.

I supposed I could do 85% of my job from wherever if I have a connection to the internet and a telephone but I can't convince my employer that this is a good thing. For some reason, they like having people in offices.

My old job I was always working in the office or traveling for them. It was definitely not fun.

My new job (special ed TA) I do a little work outside the building when needed. Mostly it deals with getting stuff ready for the next day, but it is cool. It is not a ton, and I love doing it. I have yet to convince them let me monitor the kids during the day from home. Apparently that is not a good thing.

I am a Critical care RN at a Hospital here in the DFW Metroplex, i work 80 hours every two weeks. I probably put in 2 hours a year of work outside the hospital. That is the great thing about my job, once I clock out i can leave my job at the Hospital.

Yes i am a male Nurse.

Go ahead with all the Gay Focker jokes.

I have heard them before, i will here them again. I don't mind especially since I banked my first year out of school.
