Lets hear it for UT Football!

Non-lacrosse specific topics.

That AP national Championship that USC won that year was a National championship. I will give USC their do but I will also give LSU theirs.

Seasons like that are a good reason for a playoff. But the system worked last night. the two best teams in the country, both averaging 50 points went head to head. Like in Arena football, the one who can make the most defensive stops is going to win. UT made the biggest stop on 4th and 2 against Len Del White. UT WON the game. Made the key defensive stop when they had to. We all knew that USC could play offense, but we also knew that they could not play defense. UT's defense wasn't great, but it was good enough.

Vince Young may not be a great pro QB, but he will have a legacy forever here in the State of Texas.

In the last 12 months he and the Texas Longhorns:

Beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl
Beat Ohio State in the Horse Shoe
Beat Oklahoma in October in the Cotton Bowl
Won the Big 12 championship in 1 Half of football
Won the National Championship against USC, probably the best offensive team that College football has ever seen.

USC is a great team maybe the better teamand no one can take that away, but for this year only one team can call themselves the National Champion of College Football:

The University of Texas Longhorns.

The BCS was created because of the controversy caused by the AP and the Coach's Poll.

Dan,
I look forward to the dinner! It'll be interesting to watch what develops, but I'm banking that I'm right. As much as Michael Vick redefined the position, I think Vince, with his size, will take it even further.
What shall be our criteria Dan? ProBowl QB within 5 years of turning pro?

A couple of thoughts here: (1) Irresepective of how many video games he has sold, what has Michael Vick done that has redefined the position? Answer: nothing. He is just another running QB that has not won a championship. (2) Re: Vince Young's size & running ability, isn't this the same thing they said about Daunte Culpepper?

I think the criteria should be as a quarterback (not WR or TE as some have discussed). I agree that within 5 years would be ideal. I will give you the following-

*You are right if Vince Young wins a conference championship game (or better).

*You are right if Vince Young is named to the All-Pro First Team at least twice.

*You are right if Vince Young teams make it to 3 out of 5 play-offs.

I think those are pretty solid indicators of success.

But-

*I win if Vince Young is cut or released by any team.

*I win if Vince Young's teams fail to make the play-offs for 3 out of his 5 years of grace period.

*I win if Vince Young is not a starter for the majority of games that he dresses for in his 5 seasons.

We will evaluate after Vince Young's 5 seasons and decide a winner then.

I agree with your criteria Dan, well thought-out. I also agree that we are talking about VY as a QB. This also means we'll have to keep coming back to this godforsaken web site for years to come. :)

Here is a quote by an Austin columnist Kirk Bohls, whose Heisman Trophy vote went to USC's Bush instead of favorite son Vince Young of Texas: "Return for your senior season, Vince, and I'll make it up to you next year."

Is everyone forgetting about the downed forward lateral that went in with a touchdown. Texas is still down by two points if they replay (challenge) that play.

VY should go to the NFL because USC made him look like a god. All VY had to do was look at his TE and if he was covered then Young ran. The game plan was simple for USC: contain VY, they failed. By over blitzing Young was used to the pressure by the second quarter. So from that point on, VY's game plan was wait for them to over commit and guess what he's gonna run.

The game was great to watch and I am glad that there was no other dispute like LSU and USC splitting the championship. As far as I am concerned they split half a championship so neither of them can say they are the national champion. So LSU can have the EAST and USC can have the WEST.

I think he was trying to say win both the conference championship and national championship both. UTs Baseball team won the conference tournament this past year, but the regular season champs were Baylor. As a Baylor student I was cheering for USC, but UT played well, especially Vince Young. Props to UT, they earned it with their play on the field instead of all that greatest team of all time talk about USC.
