I love when you people get on here with bitterness and just talk. Just know that Texas did what it had to take to beat USC. If you are the best team in the country you convert on a Fourth and two. USC may still be the best team, but that is why you play the games. No one thought that New England could beat St. Louis in their first Super Bowl win, but they did.
Yes it was a close game, but Vince Young made the plays when they needed him to. Their TE torched USC for 10 cathces. Vince Young may be all they have, but when you have the best Player on the field on a given day that is all you need. He carried his team just like Lienart did. But The Texas defense held there own and made the necessary stop when they needed to, and Texas won the game.
Congrats Horns.

There is no big enough for this.
Young is all Texas has? What about the defense that corraled USC when it mattered. Remember, every TEAM has an offense and a defense, and Texas had the better defense. What about their receivers who kept getting open? You'd think fans of a team that won it twice in a row would have some class when they lose it, but I guess you learn something new every day.

Texas' defense gave up 38 points; that is hardly stopping USC. To be honest, the game was won by poor defensive play calling for USC (blitzing Vince Young and pass rushing the defensive line).
If you give Vince Young lanes to run it (by pass rushing), he's going to take it.
If you give him easy 15 yard passes because there are no linebackers in coverage (because of consistent blitzing), then he is going to take the easy 15 yard pass.
Cheers to the UT coaching staff for making a hyper conservative game plan that worked to perfection. Of course, after the AFCA Convention Presentations in a few weeks, Texas' offense may never be this effective again...

i'm sick of all this attempt to 3-peat and two in a row talk about USC. Since its inception, the BCS has named a national champion from the #1 vs. #2 game. In 2003 LSU won that game, not USC. USC has one national championship.

I though this was a thread celebrating University of Tennessee football.
TU did well last night. Vince Young did his best Tee Martin impression and came through in the end.
Somewhere, Major Applewhite slept easy last night.

Tarzan will agree with you 100% about his LSU Tigers winning the Big Dance in 2003 although he has been quiet of late.

Congrats to Texas. Great game. I was at the game last night and the Texas fans are a class act. Vince Young is amazing, quite an athlete.
The AP has been the major NC award since 1936. The Coaches Poll has been nominating NCs since 1950. Both of these polls had USC #1 at the end of the year with the Coaches Poll contractually obliged to vote with the BCS. Usually the winner of those two polls is considered the undisputed NC. To discredit the AP and the CP means discrediting every NC before the BCS. The BCS screwed up that year. That is why almost everyone in the country except for a few southerners recognizes USC as back-to-back champions.

But USC, along with everyone else in the country, agreed upon the system that the BCS had used before the season began. Just because it didnt work out to your favor doesnt mean that you just disregard it. I didnt think that Oklahoma deserved to be in the N.C. as well, but you cant justifiably take away the Championship that L.S.U. won. USC has claims to the national championship, but the crystal ball is still in Baton Rouge...

the bcs was created to supercede the AP and the Coaches Poll and to set up #1 v #2 and declare a national champion. It has screwed up a few times, in 03' and more notably in 04' when 13-0 auburn was left in the cold.
USC had an incredible run, probably the best offense of my time but the 3-Pete crap was hype.
USC was the AP champion 03' and should be glad to have that distinction, but to ignore LSU's national championship is not fair.

Hey, back on topic before Sonny gets on you!
I was rooting for USC, but Vince Young won me over with his will to win. When they were down 36 - 24 with 5 minutes + left, it looked a little bleak, but that man carried his team to the win. Gutsiest individual performance I can recollect. Kudos to the victors, they EARNED it.
Lot of sour grapes from the SC faithful. They blew it - had the game in the bag if they could have only stopped Superman, but he refused to lose and now can collect the laurels he so richly deserves.
I'll be a big fan the rest of his stellar pro career. He will only get better.

Frankly, my son was telling me that he was figuring that USC would win because they were up about 12 points. I told him that I would not be surprised that the Texas coaches would come up with plays that would enable VY to just run, baby. Those plays were designed to simply show VY's strength- one on one. History tells that he is quite unstoppable at most times when going on one on one plays.
If you were to see a picture of VY cradling the Sears trophy ball and doing a Heisman-like pose shown earlier today, laxfan25 was correct that it was VY's will to win. He surely had a chip on his shoulder last night.
Anyway, there will be great players ahead of VY in years to come.

That is exactly what I'm saying. We are very happy to have the AP. It is the most important award in college football, along with the Crystal Ball. All I'm saying is NC deciders have come and gone over the years but, the AP has remained as the one that is most widely recognized. The BCS has not proven the test of time. There have been mistakes, like '03. LSU did not play the best team(I think they'll agree with that). The BCS is getting better. They definitely got it right this year. Until there is some sort of playoff there will be split championships like LSU and USC in '03.
