No penalties were called on the play, but David Parry, NCAA national coordinator of football officials and coordinator of officials for the Big Ten said Thursday that both teams should have been penalized for extra people on the field.

So IF both teams were penalized for 12 men on the field, wouldn't the penalites offset and the game would be over anyways?

No, offsetting penalties result in the down being replayed, unless both fouls are considered Unsportsmanlike Conduct in which case they are "live ball fouls treated as dead ball fouls". But in this case, too many men on the field, illegal substitution, and sideline interference are all live ball fouls that should have drawn offsetting penalties.

They went over on Sportscenter the things the refs could have called with my personal favorite being Nebraska "committed an unfair act" and could have awarded Michigan a touchdown which would be crazy. Probably one of those old rules still in there.

Another sub-par PAC-10 performance. Not too good for the conference. I'm sick of teams crying about not gettin' in to the BCS( a la CAL) and then folding like a cheap suit. Even though Oregon was playing without their starting QB they need step up for these big bowls or the PAC-10 will never get the BCS respect...outside of #1.

While Oregon might have been playing without their starting QB, it was the dismal play of their line on both sides of the ball that really stood out. They were embarrassed by the Sooners - getting blown out all over.

I don't know with 100% certainty, but I don't think a game can expire/end with any type of defensive penalty.

I don't ever trust an announcer or any other TV person. The last time I saw them quote a rule that was put up on the screen, they were showing and quoting the wrong rule!

The offsetting penalities would be for the same infraction- Too many people on the field. Had Michigan stayed off the field, they would have legitimate beef about having one more play to run from the 15 yard line.

I hope it bodes just like it did last year when Cal was embarrassed by Big12 Texas Tech

UCLA is losing by 22 points and the first quarter isnt even over...the Pac-10 has to be the worst BCS conference without a doubt, i would seriously like to see what USC could do in a legitimate conference....AND UVA pulls it off baby, oh yeah!!!
