BOWL PICK'em

Non-lacrosse specific topics.

The worst part about the end of the Michigan game was to watch the amount of Michigan players who gave up or quit without playing to the whistle. I cannot tell you how many times (probably 3 or 4 times a day) coaches tell players to play the whistle... and here, Michigan has a chance to win and some of their guys are standing around. No excuse.

Sportscenter actually highlighted several guys that could have thrown key blocks to spring a touchdown who chose to quit...

I'm not sure how much they gave up as much as they didn't have a clue what they needed to be doing to make that play successful...."do I go downfield and block someone, or do I fall back for another lateral?" Thought for a minute they were going to end up back in their own endzone!

I also think a lot of players, coaches and fans thought that when that lateral hit the ground that the play, and game, were over. Watching the replay, if he had only cut back to the middle, it looked like he only had the one guy to beat. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
If it had been successful I think it would have passed the Stanford band in football lore.

By way of trivia, who was the QB for Stanford in that game, playing his last college game?

I know they try to diversify the officiating crews for the bowl games.... But how in the world did they pick a Sun Belt officiating crew for the Alamo Bowl between the Big 12 and the Big 10. The Sun Belt is one of two 1-A conferences that doesn't use Instant Replay!

Another good reason to get your butt on up there! That, and the chance to hang out with the other officiating forum members - should be a good time! (And then we can hear how you won the bowl pick'em for the umpteenth time  )

Hmmm, thinking about upping the ante.....

Original bet that I distinctly remember everyone agreeing to :P was whether or not coaches would be allowed to yell at officials next season depending on who won the bowl picks. Now I'm thinking maybe those less fortunate with the bowl picks should pay the winner's way to the convention! Yep, that's the new deal. I'll let the coaches yell at me all they want next year if they'll pay my way to Philly! :D

The Sun Belt is also primarily local guys, therefore, less travel expense.

Yeah, John wasn't too happy about losing his final game. I think he made some comment about the refs blowing the game. Sounds like last night!

I doubt that the reason. I would like to know how the bowl game officials are assigned.

$400 for Ticket to Michigan

$25 for chips and drinks

Watching my nephew's cousin Joe who is a big Michigan fan grovel at my Dad's feet saying "We are unworthy"--Priceless

For everything else, use Mastercard...

(Yes, I know I picked Michigan, but was cheering for the Huskers since they are my Dad's alma mater. Glad to see them win!!)

Discussion of the Alamo Bowl officiating and the "final play"
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/bowls05/n ... id=2274608

No penalties were called on the play, but David Parry, NCAA national coordinator of football officials and coordinator of officials for the Big Ten said Thursday that both teams should have been penalized for extra people on the field.

Technical difficulties with the "TIVO" style replay system (not what the NFL uses) also didn't help. At least a couple of times when the replay official tried but couldn't contact the officials on the field.
