Lacrosse approved as new club sport
12/26/2005
It was a busy and productive night Tuesday evening for the East Greenwich School Committee. The committee spent its evening introducing new programs and improving curriculum.
Among the topics discussed at length-a proposal for a lacrosse club at Cole Middle School and a discussion of proposed classes at the high school.
Representatives from the West Bay Youth Lacrosse Association proposed a new lacrosse program for Cole Middle School. Committee members heard the proposal and later approved the request to introduce lacrosse to Cole Middle School this spring as a club sport.
The new club sport will be self funded and not part of the East Greenwich budget; participants will be charged a fee - West Bay Lacrosse Association will cover remaining costs.
The organization has already donated fifty lacrosse sticks to Cole Middle School so that a lacrosse module could be taught as part of physical education; currently the group is working to acquire grant money in order to buy additional lacrosse equipment for Cole.
