The school fought the Titans move to Memphis, and later to Nashville, for fear that the pro franchise would take away fans (read: money) from the Vols.

Then Nashville builds an arena and attempts to steal the Devils from Jersey and the Hornets from Charlotte. Much like St. Petersburg did with their dome, Nashville got sucked into the "if you build, they will come" maxim. Yes, the NHL came to Nashville but it is franchises like Nashville, Columbus, and Florida that lead to the lockout the NHL just went through.

BTW, any still watch hockey?

I just saw a picture of Damon sitting in the barber, er, hair stylist's chair, with his hair in a pile on the ground. The pile looked pretty neat, like it was ready to be put in baggies and sold on eBay. WE should be seeing that soon. either that, or a strand will be affixed to his special edition Upper Deck baseball card next year. Collect all two - the one in his Red Sox uni and the one in his jailhouse (Yankee) pinstripes.

Again, I disagree completely. Sports Illustrated, ESPN The Magazine (ok, it's still ESPN), Sporting News, Boston Globe, New York Times, USA Today... just to name a few. While many people would disagree simply because they think their favorite team's rivalry is one of the biggest rivalries in sports, I don't think any neutral party would deny that Red Sox-Yankees is one of the biggest in the history of modern sports. I know for a fact most Yankee fans wouldn't disagree.

My take being someone who is neither a Red Sox nor Yankee fan. Johnny Damon is an average Centerfielder playing in one of the smallest CF in baseball. He makes great catches, but could he do the same thing in a gaping CF like in Texas at Ameriquest Field. I like his offensive game, when you have only one guy in the line-up (Derek Jeter) who hits with runners in scoring position (Arod is horrible at hitting when it matters, Ortiz should have been the MVP), you have to be aggressive to find another guy that can get on base and can move people over. A left-handed hitter in Yankee Stadium will be good for the Yanks. I think Damon will be villified, just like Clemens was when he returned in the stripes. But Damon's assault will be much worse since he was a hometown boy only a season ago. Clemens had time with the Blue jays before going to the Bronx. But I can't fault a guy for trying to make more money. But I also agree with the sentiment that there is something to be said for enjoying where you work.

Now enough about those two lets talk about a team that everyone cares about (Aside- if you take this statement seriously, you have major issues) the Texas Rangers. Finally they spent some money and got some pitching, whether it is good pitching or not will remain to be seen. Kevin Millwood reportedly will sign with the Rangers. The one thing that surprised me was they gave up on home grown Chris Young (who was in the rotation for his first full year last year) for Adam Eaton of the Padres. Yes Eaton has had some average years, but I hate that they gave up on a guy so quickly. I like the Vincente Padilla signing, we needed a hard thrower in the rotation that can strike people out.

Need another Bat.

Glad to see they ditched Soriano. He could possibly become the youngest DH in history, should he make it back to the AL. He is currently lobbying the Nationals for a trade back to the AL based on this: He knows the pitchers and that he just finally figured out how to play each player in the field. Good luck with that arguement! At least he was better to have than that glove slapping fool, Rodriguez!

It is a shame the Uncle Bud's baseball classic is falling apart around him. The Italian team should be interesting, since it looks like it will be stocked with Italian-Americans, rather than native speakers. How about that Dutch team? After Andruw Jones and Sidney Ponson, who ya got? I hope the tensions don't escalate with China or Taiwan will have to pull out. Let the Cubans play!

To revisit the Damon thing for one last time: I am all for him taking the money. He didn't break his contract or demand a trade. Free-agency was great when it brought him to Boston but now he is the devil. (As for his wife, here I would put up against her: Anna Benson- wife or Kris and Emily Wells- wife of Kip). That is what the market demanded for a player of his talents, ahem. What is the big deal with being a Yankee anyhow. It is not like The Babe (Read Jimmy Damon's comments on his son's place in history http://msnbc.msn.com/id/10587915/), DiMaggio or Claudell Washington are out there anymore. I wonder if Damon had to get approval from Claudell to where his 18? It had to have been retired. Hadn't it?

Damon has come a long way in a few years from toiling in the Royals outfield. The Yankees will continue to be there at the end. Will Boston and its three remianing starters from the 2004 WS be there as well. Good luck getting Tejada. Another fine upstanding, contract honoring individual.
