My head is spinning.

Taking a breather.... sigh....

YESIAMAGIRL started this topic this morning (2:47 am) and look what it got us so far... 60 replies in a day! Sonny, would that be a record for so many replies for a single thread in a day?

Wait, I suppose I'm an idiot. Wolf Pack is singular, ain't it. I'll keep my comments to myself today.

Wolf Pack is plural since on wolf cannot make a "pack."

Illini and Irish can be both, like fish and deer. The Alabama Crimson Tide is anyone's guess. What is up with Alabama's two largest school's mascot? Bama is the Crimson Tide and the mascot is an elephant. Auburn is an eagle name Tiger and the baseball team is the Plainsmen. Huh?

(Before you beginnnig flaming, I know the derivation of both nicknames and mascots. it is called jokes, like Tony Danza.)

Atlanta was 1996. NYC, Boston, or Chicago have never hosted anything Olympic.

Lake Placid (NY), Squaw Valley (CA), and now SLC have hosted Winter Games in the US. LA, Atlanta, and St. Louis (1904) have hosted Summer Games in the US.

Doh!! And I even have a t-shirt from the Atlanta games!!! :? Maybe I should've checked that before posting.

I knew St. Louis had hosted the World Expo (the ice cream cone was invented there) but wasn't sure about the Olympics. I think the other three have been considered as sites but got turned down.

14. What other famous individual died along side the great Roberto Clemente on the plane that crashed 31 December 1972? What was the plane carrying and where was it headed?

13. I know that Maury Wills was the NL MVP in 1962 with the Dodgers (even though the Giants beat them for the NL pennant that year). Didn't have any idea he was a basketball player.

14. I know Clemente's plane was heading to Nicaragua for a relief effort (earthquake I think). So it was probably carrying clothing & medical supplies. Don't know who else was on it.

3. Daley Thompson from Great Britain

7. Wasn't Jackson with the Orioles before he went to the Yankees?

20. I know that at some point Ricky started wearing #34 to honor former UT running back Earl Campbell. Don't know the other part of the question.

That's all I've got.

4. Great Britain, France and Greece are CORRECT. Still two more countries needed.

5. Incorrect

6. Correct.
Summer Games
St. Louis 1904. Known as the "Anthropological Games" and run in conjunction with the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair celebrating the centennial of Lewis & Clark's journey into the West.

Los Angeles 1932 & 1984. The '84 Games were the first to turn a profit.

Atlanta 1996

Winter
Lake Placid, NY 1932 & 1980. In the early years of the Winter Games, the Winter and Summer Olympics were held in the same country. This ended in 1956.

Squaw Valley, Ca 1960

Salt Lake City 2002

13. Incorrect

14. Half correct. The plane was carrying relief supplies for the Nicaragua earthquake. Still need to know who was on the flight with him of note?

29. CORRECT. The significance of Milton College is that it is no longer in business. It went defunct in the mid-1980s.

3. CORRECT

7. CORRECT

20. INCORRECT. Williams did change his number to honor a running back who wore #34, but it was not Campbell.

Are you sure about that? That was the year he stole 104 bases, right?

Must've been Walter Payton then. Only significant #34 RB that comes to mind.
