Off Season...

How are teams prepairing/keeping in shape for the spring? Do teams have access to indoor facilities? Is anyone still holding weekly practices? It always seems that the grizzlies go into hibernation with the coming of cold weather and snow on our practice fields. Some guys are in a local hockey league, others are avid skiers/riders, but physical team activities seem to be put on hold for the most part. Anyone have good ideas for winter laxtivities??

a lot of guys use the winter to improve upon personal fitness, eg. lifting and sprinting.

i know here at western oregon we have been lucky to have pretty good weather and have been holding practices five days a week since the very end of october. its also nice since we are student lead so we don't really have to worry about coaches. also within an hour of here there is a winter mens indoor league going on. but we are lucky and have the type of weather where we can make this sort of thing work, i know not everyone has this luxury.

I didn't realize that having coaches was such a hindrance to the success of a college lacrosse team.

Thanks to Kyle B, indoor box lacrosse was a huge hit for its first year at the Tacoma Arena Sports.

It was a good way to get some stick work in and some attention from other coaches as well. Also, some good hitting practice :D

Ben, I had lots of help behind the scenes, and plenty of help from you guys including Jeff Maahs the official (which is still funny)... and next year I promise... you guys won't put as many holes in the back of the nets (4mm's coming).

That's about it for UPS. We want lax to be fun, and an addition to the college experience, so 5 a week doesn't happen in the fall. Indoor once a week, student lead throw arounds, a few meetings, fundraisers, some strategy talk and their done for the Fall... As far as we're concerned, that's enough for now. If I can get as much help coaching as I did with indoor, we'll be sure to beat PLU again this year!!!

I'm sorry Lutes, I couldn't resist. It was the highlight of my season last year, even if you did make us play an away playoff game in the end.

We'll just have to see about that, Kyle. :D

And I'm with Ben, thanks for taking the time to organize the fall indoor league. I had a blast and can only hope to have as much fun during the upcoming season.

Some of us from the Portland area will be doing speed, agility, and conditioning training 3 times a week at Sports Lab. Those of us who have been working out at the Casanova Center received a 4-week workout schedule from our Division 1 strength and conditioning coaches to do in conjunction with our other training.

Ok since you totally misconstrued what i was trying to say i will elaborate. when i say that it is easier since we dont have coaches what i mean is that finding a reliable coach with knowledge of the game isnt always easy. as you all know we are a new program and have surprised many in the league with our level of play so early. if we found a coach with knowledge of the game and who really knew what he was doing then we players would be more than happy to give up the reins. as is we make do with an assortment of volunteers that include linfields previous head coach Dave Homa, who has been kind enough to show up a few times a week and help keep things organized. believe me i would much rather that our team had a dedicated head coach who was willing and able to show up on a regular basis. as is we make do and will continue to do so until we find someone who fits the bill. i hope u dont find this offensive, it wasnt meant to be, i just felt that i should clarify what i meant. that sometimes in the off season it is good to be student lead, because coaches dont always have time to help. thank you and goodnight.

Coaches

I didn't misconstrue anything, WouMiddie. Knew exactly what you meant -- was just having fun with the way you phrased your thought. Good luck in 2006 -- and I hope you guys DO find a real, dedicated Head Coach to lead you. It WILL help...

I've seen your guy's stuff. We'll see.

Besides, don't you guys have to find a goalie to play in Spring? I can't play for you all the time. :)

Thanks again.
