Thats a pretty big roster considering Iowa is known for its farms, not its lacrosse!!!

The sport is growing. The amount of [insert small farm town], Iowa people know what lacrosse is compared to my freshmen year in 2001 when people would ask if I was going to catch butterfiles.

They also got a nice influx of Chicago kids this year.

The Bubble will be rockin'

Postby culax on Fri Dec 02, 2005 2:17 pm

The Iowa website proclaims:

"The Bubble will be rockin' February 18th"

Creighton is looking forward to its first trip to the Bubble. Is it tough to see the ball with the white roof and white walls?

Per NCAA Rule 1, the coaches may agree to switch to a yellow, orange, or lime-green ball. Green balls are illegal under NFHS rules.

It takes getting used to but after throwing the ball around, it's not that bad.

Also depends on what time you play at. Different times (sun brightness) play with the background.

The most "annoying" thing is when the lights are on, the lights are right at stick level when throwing. You also get used to it but we had one goalie my freshmen year who hated it.

Overall, its fun to play in the Bubble and the new field turf I heard is ten times better than the old astro stuff that used to be there when I played. I saw the old stuff tear two ACLs and give many people shin splints and played havoc on my ankles.

Women's lax in the bubble?

Postby davewiley on Fri Dec 09, 2005 12:50 pm

We used to make an annual trip to the Bubble for a women's tournament, and yes the lighting took some getting used to, but it always was a great day of lacrosse for players and fans. It sounds like the women's team hasn't been able to get scheduled in the Bubble since the field turf went in. Are the requirements to get the Bubble different now? Just curious.

Bubble Time

Postby hurstlax 39 on Fri Dec 09, 2005 4:05 pm

The biggest thing working against the girl's team is the fact that they don't have and haven't had a "coach" or at least someone willing to take charge for a few years now. but they do get their assigned practice times its just harder to get the turf on the weekends

So while they can get the bubble if they ask early they are not organized early enough to use it.

Also there are a lot of rec/club teams trying to get time in there and some nights there are 3 teams sharing 100 yards of indoor turf!!!

Matt- the writeup on the front page of Iowa's site is correct, except KU plays them at Illinois, not Kansas State. The schedule is right for that game though.

You are not kidding about the influx of nice IL talent. Barrington kids, New Trier kids - those kids will have been really well coached!

I'm sure it might have been thought of at one time or another but I would recommend using different color balls in that bubble. I know laxref kind of mentioned it earlier, but I think it's a good idea. The indoor facility at Central Michigan has white walls on both sides, so we decided to go with yellow balls in order to see better. I thought it worked out much better, in addition to tying in with our school colors (as it would for Iowa). It might be something to try out at one of the first practices. Good luck this season.
