Best/Worst Facilities in the LSA

That soccer stadium might be one of the nicest natural fields in the nation, but I think there is little chance the lacrosse team will gets to use it anytime soon. That is unless someone (CP) can get into the athletic deparment and help them out.

i know coach G and there is no chance! especially after they just re-did the pitch 2 years ago.

Just like Jessy said, no way is Coach G gonna let anyone but his team use that field. They earned it over the years by being the most successful Aggie team since the BIG XII move.

Sooner or later with A&M's club sport success they will build a venue specifically club use.

The only chance of that happening is if Fran gives more money to them to renovate those fields out there for his 7 on 7 football tournaments. After that referendum failed in '03 I was told that he wanted to use the sport club fields for that football tournament and the athletic department gave Rec Sports some funds to fix the fields and that is why the big mound is now gone you have two okay fields out there where the driving range use to be.

We showed up to play Houston last year, and yes, Carl Lewis Stadium is nice, nothing spectacular, but nice. Anyways, we only had like 12 guys so we were running low to begin with. As we pulled up to the field, I saw the Cougars warming up, and a large copper statue by the field. I had never been to the field before, nor did I know Carl Lewis was an alumn (much less had the stadium named after him) so I had no idea who this statute was of. As we started walking from the parking lot, I realized that this statue was moving. So the twelve of us, hung over and miserable, see this gigantic, monsterous black guy with no shirt on at the Cougars' bench and all I can think is 'where the hell did they get this guy?' and that he is going to break all of us in half. He got bigger and bigger with every step we took, the guy could have been a middle linebacker for the texans... We got on the field and started putting on our pads and stuff before realizing there were tv cameras on the field and people were interviewing this monster that houston had brought in. Oh wait, that is Carl Lewis... Fox was doing Beyond the Glory (talk about running out of controversial subjects), so we got to watch him trot around and all that good stuff. Quite a relief that he wasnt playing, we still lost though...

In reply to Flock of Seagulls post. Carl is a "friend" of the UH Lacrosse program. He played in High School in N.J., but of course did not play in college at UH. He played middie in H.S. Picture Carl coming down the field dodging! He is a down to earth person who follows our program and supports it. The athletic department at UH remembers "their own" and Carl has influence with the department. He has a copy of our home schedule and tries to get to a game each year.

Possibly the worst fields we have played on this year were at Harding this past weekend. As it turns out, Harding Univ. does not like their team to host neutral site games. So they stuck us on this field that had mounds, divets, mud pits, and some sort of green substance resembling mold. Footing was impossible to gain and the ball often times disappeared in the mud. Never the less, Creighton beat us and they were dealing with the same conditions.

Then we had the pleasure playing Harding on Sunday. We did play in the soccer stadium and the field was in fairly decent condition. But the side lines were pure mud. They laid ply wood down to attempt to improve ones ability to navigate, but that quickly got muddy and wet and became like ice. The mud was literally ankle deep. Several of our players lost shoes in the slop.

Wow, I really don't know if I should say anything to this, but what the heck I'm going to.

We have held neutral sites on that field before in worse conditions and NO ONE has ever complained about it. Our varsity soccer field takes a beating throughout the year and we are gracious that we got to play on it. If your just joining the discussion, our school does not allow neutral games on the varsity fields but they do on the practice fields. The sidelines (Varsity field) are mudsoaked year round and because of the elevation of the university and that particular side of campus there is very little that they can do about it. I did not hear a single complaint from Creighton about either field and they were happy to be able to play. Thats whats important PLAYING THE GAME. We have played in much worse conditions so far this year. The fields situation was discussed when the games were initially made last fall. We, nor anyone, can control rain or what happens to make a field muddy. I am sure that many people can tell you about playing on mud fields.

I will give you one instance of a worse field. We played at SLU earlier this year where the field was under water, yeah there was standing water all over the field when we played. Do we care no, cause again its about playing the game. If you were worried about a little mud I did write you specifically and said that we had locker rooms available if you asked but you didn't.

Alright Corbin. Dont get your panties in a bunch. The whole discussion in this particular forum is the conditions of the fields we play in. I agree that the varsity field was in decent condition. And you dont have to explain to me about rain. We have been practicing on tennis courts for three weeks because our fields are not playable due to rain. Just because Creighton didnt complain to you doesnt mean there werent complaints. Even the refs were talking bad about that particular practice field. Why would ya'll even offer to host a neutral site game if you dont have the facilities to handle it in the first place? That just seems odd to me.

No matter what the field conditions, we did lose both of our games. All teams dealt with the same conditions we did and I dont blame the fields for how the games turned out.

You personally went after his schools facilities, of course hes gonna step up and say something back. I don't know who your really talking about but the guys at Harding are a true class act and will always do whatever they can to satisfy anyone that comes to their fields, and same thing goes for when they play at your school too. You say that they "stuck you" on a crappy field?? Well, Corbin clearly stated that their school doesn't allow anything but the field that you used, for neutral site games, so from the sound of that it wasn't really a choice but a lack of options. Maybe your school is a little more flexible with their fields but not all of us have that luxury. I understand what this forum is about, so I have no problem with you saying that the field was muddy, had some mounds, etc; but I'd avoid making statements that would hint that they intentionally put you on that field, in the future.

I've played on their fields with the mud and "mold looking substance" before and I kinda liked it. Makes things interesting and makes you work harder to get the results your looking for!

First, never once did i say Harding wasnt a class act. Both Creighton and Harding represented the game the way it should be, as did we, I hope. Second, our school is no more flexible with their fields than any other school. As previously mentioned, we havent practiced on grass for three weeks, and it looks like it is going to be four or more by the time it is all said and done. So i can get on board with them on the school being strict. Last, I readily admitted to all teams playing in equal conditions. So their was no advantage. We lost fair and square.

CP18- We may have overdone our schedule this year concerning traveling. But we were tired of only playing 8 games a year against the same people (no offense intended to anyone in LSA).
