mikeyg123 i believe that the D man from Butler will not be playing in the regular season. and binji what are you talking about "last year results"? Yes Tech made it to the national championships. But according to laxpower.com it says that tx state had the best overall win percentage in the LSA at .73 compared to Techs .58. I was just wondering what you meant by last year results?

lax is cool: as long as we're bringing Laxpower.com into this....
Do some research... Tech had a strength of schedule ranked 32in the nation, with Texas A&M and Texas at 30 and 31, respectively.
Texas State's strength of schedule came in at 95th. Aside from University of Houston, Texas State had the weakest schedule in the LSA, and almost the nation. Texas State also had a loss to all three of the aforementioned teams.
Yet aside from all this, Laxpower.com means nothing. I was just trying to say that Kurzweil was a major factor in Tech having the success that it did last year. Texas State, as they did last season, is sure to have another successful season themselves.[/b]

yep, i dont know if i would use win percentage as a true barometer as to how well a team played in a season. I would however, use the LSA Championships as a true barometer to how the teams did. With that said, Tech deserves the #1 pre-season ranking and UT deserves #2. But i am pretty sure ut's starting goalie didnt even play in the playoffs last year and they made it to the finals riding with the freshman backup who played out of his mind up until the championship. it would have been nice to see the starting goalie for ut play tech in the finals, might have had a different outcome. but enough with coulda's and shoulda's, the numbers speak for themselves and i know tech and ut played some serious OOC opponents, off the top of my head, csu, michigan, univ. of colorado, Oakland, UCSD, Chico State, and etc. I am not sure that tsu played that high of caliber teams last year (other than Lindenwood). but tsu made a strong statement last year when they made the playoffs, though they didnt have to play anyone in the first round (not their fault) i am sure smu would have loved the opportunity to have a shot at them had tulane not ducked out at the last moment. should be an exciting year in the lsa.
BTW, has anyone been able to access the LSA website, is it undergoing updates?

its been a couple years now since we've been down there but when we were there we played 4 or 5 different opponents (UNT, SMU, St. Edwards, UTA, and there may have been 1 more) but the best goalie by far was the St. Edwards goalie. He came up huge against us. Saw some incredible saves out of him. I think they told us he was a freshman so that would mean that hes still around.

I am not saying that St. Ed's goalie doesn't have strong points(ex: quick hands and tall build). However, I don't think he can come close to the skillz both Galvin and Kurzweil have. And as for the head to head comparison, the record says one thing while my personal opinion(having played against both) says Mikie is the man to have in your cage in this league.
1. Mike has much quicker hands
2. Makes you think about where on cage you're shooting(think dominant hands)
3. Mike doesn't go to his knees everytime a shooter looks low.
4. Nobody is as good at one on one defending as Mike G(constantly stuffing attackmen)
Kurzweil(sp?) is a good keeper with great attributes. And although my opinion is biased, I feel Mikie was better in high school and it has carried over into college

Kyle, having played against both in High School and with both in the same game in college, I have to disagree. But I guess if we all agreed, there'd be no point to this forum. But yeah, between the two, it's definitely debatable.

St. Ed's Goalie
I don't know if he the usual starter but at the A&M fall classic a freshman, Michael Avery, started for St. Eds.

Awards do say something, but they are not the end of all discussion. Saying who the best goalie is by simply stating the awards he's recieved does not convince people. If you want to convince people, which is obviously your intent, you're not going to do it by that alone. If you want to partake in an intelligent debate; then do so intelligently. Other than that, stop wasting people's time with your arrogance.
Here's a quote that I think is pretty interesting.
Awards are merely the badges of mediocrity.

What about this
I think Karl Lynch is the best goalie in the LSA. The man has won a national championship. I'll take an out of shape Lynch over any of these bums
Happy holidays Karl

Being a goalie in the LSA myself and getting the moments of looking down field I tend to like watching the Tech goalie the most. To me its cool watching that 6 foot monster Swallowing fools shots up from the outside and making 1 on zeros look easy by stuffing fools in front of the crease. Not to say the other goalies in the league arent good but he seems to have fount a way of keeping his team undefeated for a yr. now since fall is now over and were going into the spring season. Whether he keeps it up who knows. I know i'm gonna try and stop that 6 foot train when UNT goes out to Lubbock to play Tech this spring but in my opinion he seems to be the best in the league right now.
