UCSB vs. ALUMNI GAME

Alumni win in the final seconds of overtime. UCSB was missing many starters including Conklin-Moragne, Shaw, Nejdl & others. Alumni down 5-1 at half opened the 2nd half with a middie line of Patton, Isaksen & Tom Smith and ran off a string of goals to get back in the game. Not a bad line there, 3 recent college AAs, one of them last year's player of the year.

Alumni won 6-5 but it was not overtime. They had agreed to play 5 quarters regardless of the score.
The game winner was scored by an attackman with an old school helmet who played in the 80's. There were 2 seconds left in the 5th quarter.
Both teams substituted freely including the 5th quarter, so it was not like a real overtime game.

Thanks for the info-heard it wasn't the greatest game, but that is somewhat to be expected since they are at a world-reknown institution and are in the middle of midterms!

One positive from the UCSB alumni game was that the goalie question was answered. Mike Sheridan can play. The freshman, Matt Weber also played well.

Yes, I've heard the same. Watched Sheridan as a high school goalie and he has come a long way since then. I've got alot of confidence that this young team will accomplish much this season.

Hey, it obvioulsy takes a little bit for me to post in these parts, but give a little credit were it is due.

The Alumni was down 4-1. Whoever was in for the team over the course of 3 quarters (which included mostly starters), the team only managed one more score against a bunch of old, out of shape, twice a month (or less) ballers.

Say all you want about going to the bench. This seemed like a plan to run the hell out of the aforementioned old, out of shape, twice a month ballers.

As far as the extra quarter, it was overtime, and we scored with :1 sec left (off an absolute mesmorizing dime by Josh Lane) for the victory. So either we won in the "5th quarter" (which wasn't agreed to beforehand by the way) or we won in triple OT.

Take your pick. The point being the old guys rallied for one last time at glory.

Consider it a sign of a good program when the alumni can give the squad a run.

Well, that was fun. I bid you all adieu for another two years. Tah, tah, for now friends.

What...a hater!! Stay off the boards until you are no longer involved.

UCSB looked much better than I expected with all the new faces that are now in the limelight. There are several very shifty middies who can play and the attack looked good. The flow of their offense was very controlled and their defense is very young but very big, and don't try to do too much. A few reminded me of Mike Towers, when he came to SB. I agree Mike "ice" Sheridan looked very impressive, as he stuffed me on several occasions. So there is a lot of potential. But they are definitely missing a few pieces that they had last year.

Dtrain failed to mention that if he hadn't gone out of his way to try to jump a pass then there wouldn't have been any debate over a final score. During the Alumni's 3-0 run there were 5 former AA's on offense, which is virtually unstoppable. This was definitely the best Alumni team ever, as expected as the last few years graduating classes were all top 4 finishers. Hopefully next year will be a s fun of a time.

How interesting that my roommate is so quick to point out how horrible I am at rides and clears...perhaps I will have to kill him in his sleep as I originally planned; for no other reason than his propensity to hate, and for kissing my youngest sister.

Redwing does point out what I was trying to express in my post, it is the sign of a good program if the alumni can even hang to begin with.

It is no coincidence that the first year that the alumni has ever won, is the year after which the most successful senior class of players graduates. A senior class that includes several all-americans and won not one, but TWO, national championships.

Santa Barbara is still a top ten team; top 5 probably as long as Coach Allen is there.

But if people are going to feel a need to come on here in the future and try to defend the outcome of an ALUMNI GAME, perhaps we would be better served to do what other successful programs do: A game of two teams mixed with alumni and current players (odd vs. even years).

That way everyone can have fun and everyone will realize afterwards that Santa Barbara used to be very good...and still is very good.

Perhaps Redwing would be better served taking his hate out on the person his is most upset with...SCOTT HOLMES, who single-handedly almost ruined the alumni's chances by almost breaking Redwing's ankle and ending his career, and who during the alumni game, ruined every fast-break that he possibly could.

Now that's hateful.
