new lax fight video

never seen this one before but it is great...someone chime in.... is this a canadian league. Seems to me this game went 20 fights to long.

That video happened about an hour or so outside of Vancouver. From the looks of it, the kids are playing Intermediate lacrosse, which means they'd be 17-18 years old. The refs are doing a piss poor job stopping these fights before they happen, which isn't surprising. The taller, younger ref is a guy that refs me all the time, and the guy is the worst ref I've ever seen in my life. Games that he refs get out of hand all the time because he calls little penalties that don't need to be called, and lets things go that lead to retaliation, fights, injuries, etc.

4 things about that one:

1) Man I miss playing hockey sometimes.
2) Notice the TO #81 Jersey 2:25 into the 1st video :lol:

3) That goalie fight was pretty weak...they danced and danced then a goalie lost his helmet and they stopped....bah.
4) How can those refs have those jobs? Those are the worst fight-break-ups I've ever seen.

This looked to me like a hockey mentality towards fights.

The refs tried to wait until they slowed down, or fell down before breaking it up. The problem is, that no matter how good of a skater you are you are never better at staying on skates than at staying on your feet. The fights don't break down as fast as hockey fights.

The crowd seems to love it. I, personally, wouldn't play the white team ever again. They truly are goons.

We had a game in Wallaceburg, ONT one time (summer) and they had an indoor tourney going on. It was funny, the indoor guys said "you guys are crazy when you play field!". After watching the videos I think not.
It is obvious that this is just hockey with lacrosse sticks. Fighting I guess is par for the course. I can honestly say that in my first 25 years of lacrosse I never saw a fight on the field. There have a been a few since then, but are still very, very rare.
As far as the refs breaking up a field lax fight, we have been instructed NOT to do it. Just freeze the benches and take down numbers. After all, in the videos, what protection do the refs have vs. the combatants in helmets, gloves and pads? The fans may like the "action", but I can do without it. I do know that one of the differences in box is that cross-checks in the back are allowed. When you're falling face first to a hard surface it will tend to get your blood boiling. I'll leave box reffing to the Canadiens.

but hockey refs are clearly instructed to break it up when it hits the ground , i wonder (and don't envy) if indoor refs are responsible for separating those little bastards? The white team needs a new coach.

Fighting in box lacrosse (note: BOX lacrosse in Canada is NOT the same as INDOOR lacrosse in the US, which is pretty much just field lacrosse inside for the most part) is treated pretty much the same as in hockey. If refs can stop the fight before it starts, they do. If they can't, they usually wait until one player takes the other player down and then separate them.

To say that this is just hockey with lacrosse sticks, though, is completely off base. The game is much more physical than hockey (with cross checking being the standard method of checking and all), but also incredibly quick and fast paced, with amazing skill. The players with the best stick skills (the Gaits, John Grant Jr.) tend to be box lacrosse players.

I was referring more towards the obvious prevalence of fights in these box games in my comparison to hockey. Gloves littering the floor....

is the NLL indoor or box?

NLL technically calls themselves indoor, but they are much closer to box than most US "indoor" lacrosse. NLL has a few differing rules than box, but they allow crosschecking, etc. Most of my friends from Canada that have played indoor in the states have told me that basically it is field lacrosse inside, i.e. no one cross checks, full box lacrosse pads aren't worn, etc...

I reffed several peewee, bantam and midget Ice Hockey games before. And if ever the instance of a fight broke out, it was usually the ref's discretion on when to break up the fight. It was easiest when people went down (of course), but if they start dancing around you could catch them and stop it before it starts. Is reffing a lacrosse game any different in terms of fight-breaking? Getting hurt is a risk you take when you decide to call the game; whether it be getting hit by a shot, run into by a player, or getting caught by a punch. It seems like the high school kids are stronger than the refs :lol:

Those were biker shorts... Totally spandex, and totally 80's.

I used to love going to Joe Louis and watching the turbos. They sucked real bad, then they got both the Gaits, then they won two titles, then the gaits left and the team folded.
