WCLL Week 3 (2/9 - 2/15): Schedule, Thoughts, & Scores

Nothing. The UCSB Coaches (along with all other WCLL teams) should have an avenue to address the officiating via rating forms and access to the WCLL Conference Assignor. When fans have input on officiating, it will be a sad day for all involved. (My 2 cents).

Growing the pool of officials is one way to help. That way there would be more officials in all geographic areas to assign to various games.

I see your point. Most fans get angry about an official being biased against a particular team. That would lead to chaos. That is not the case here. Both teams were dissatisfied as well as the fans. Too bad. It just kills me to drive 5 hours to these games and watch a mockery of lacrosse. I am not talking about an official who is biased against a particular team. I am talking about an official ruining a lacrosse game for the fans and both teams.
I certainly hope that both coaches in last night's game pursue every possible recourse within the WCLL to remove this official and that all the future coaches visiting Santa Barbara make sure to send an appropriate evaluation to the league.
Enough said. Sorry, Sonny. This is a sad situation and I have said my piece.

I'm going to have to agree with bluevelvet on this one. I seen a number of games with this official and by the end of each game, when he makes his 45th penalty call, everyone in the stands and on both benches groans. It really hurts the game and makes it hard for team to get into their grove and play lacrosse. Hopefully Mike Allan, Ryan Herchenroether and other Central California coaches can do something about this guy. Sonny is right though, until there is someone to replace him, what can you do?

Sonoma 15

Final score isnt confirmed, but this was the score I received from someone at the game. Both teams looked unimpressive according to my source

Final

UCSB - 17
SDSU - 0

The entire roster of UCSB played today as they substituted early and often. Mike Wood got the start in goal and the other 2 backup goalies also played. Ryan Brittain did not play in goal, but managed to score a goal at attack. Many people on the UCSB roster recorded a goal today including Damon Conklin-Moragne. Next week it's on to Whittier and then back home against UCSD.

I sense that there could be a changing of the guard in (what I would call) the "second tier" WCLL teams (below SB & SSU). We should find out something this weekend about one of the teams that I suspect will step up and that is UCSD. They were on the verge of breaking through last year and meeting Chapman should be a good indicator for that team.

Hit that one on the head, Catlax. John Hughes was one of the biggest reasons Sonoma got where it was and seems to be doing a great job for the Tritons too. They have a few tests in the next few weeks, including games against Poly and UCSB, but it looks like their make or break weekend will come on March 12/13 when Arizona and ASU come to town on consecutive days. UCSD has to win one of those games to hope to make the WCLL playoffs.

Coaches Donnelly and Burke are two people that I really respect at Chapman, but I think they are going to have a tough time of it this year. Their conference includes USC and UCLA, both improving squads, (not to mention LMU) and will be hard pressed to take second in their division as well.
