It was a misty start to the tournament this morning with the teams taking to the field promptly at nine. Things were in full gear on all four fields when we arrived.

Here are some preliminary scores for the first six match-ups:

USD 5 UC Davis 1
Chapman 9 LMU 3
OCJC 10 Biola 7
UC Santa Cruz 5 Cal Lutheran 1
UCLA 4 UC Irvine 0
UCSB 7 UCSD 3

USD looks to be fielding another good team this year. They were playing pretty solidly against Davis.

UCSD came out firing, scoring the first goal in their match against UCSB. The Gauchos promptly answered back with a goal of their own. It was a hard-hitting game with both teams going at it with full intensity. IMO the Gauchos still got it.

Unfortunately that's all I have to report. Hope someone else can fill in the scores for the rest of the tournaments. Thanks to UCI for hosting the event.

This was originally posted in the General Discussion area. I thought I'd re-post it here. Sorry about the incorrect score for the LMU-Chapman game. I was going off the chart posted by the refreshment stand.

It looks like Chapman is putting their talent to good use. It will be interesting to see how they do this coming season. Good luck to all.

Glad to hear the Gauchos still got it! They had their first practice on 9/30, so I am impressed with how guickly they have gotten ready.
This year, they have 2 starters from last season's opening day starting lineup, Luke Shaw (A) and Nick Schooler (M). Their goalie and starting defense graduated. 5 of their top 6 middies graduated, They have Luke Shaw and late season starter Nick Stratton at attack. Damon Conklin LSM is abroad this quarter.
The replacemants are mostly freshmen and sophmores. It looks like the Gauchos were able to retool.
I have read alot about the freshman class at Chapman but it looks like the Gauchos freshmen are as good if not better. They have 21 new players this year listed on laxpower. I can't wait to see them in person this year.
Seems like their biggest fall ball challenge will be the alumni game on 11/12 when most of the 2004 and 2005 national champions return to the Pit.

It was great to see them play. The goalie did a pretty good job during the UCSD game. And believe me, UCSD wasn't about to give an inch in that game! I only watched a little of the Chapman/LMU game, but Chapman also looked pretty tight. I was more focused on the San Diego/UC Davis game during the first round of games.

During the UCSB game, the defensive coach was on the job the whole time, instructing the D men every chance he got. It was quite entertaining. That game also drew the biggest crowd (no surprise there...). I think that every team that wasn't playing was over there watching the action.

According to the UCSB website, they won all three of their games, beating UC Davis in their final game. Can't give y'all a score since they didn't have one posted. It sounds like Chapman was their toughest competition.
