Who's going to take the SELC this year?

I think the score of the USC-Vandy game could have been more lopsided, but both coaches agreed to go to running time after halftime to avoid more injuries on UT's concrete field. This was just as Vandy was starting to pour it on. In defense of USC, though, they did play a game the previous day, while Vandy was rested.

Both UT and Vandy were good teams, and I’d be lying to say that I’m glad they turned out the way they did (in any regard). A tough introduction to the Division A, but we’ll be looking forward to hosting both teams at our “venerable” fields near the Blatt PE Center next year.

next week
I can't wait till next week when Vandy and UT square off so we can finnally get some insight on what kind damage Vandy is actually capapble of against "comprable" teams...

From the two teams I saw, I think it'll be UT all the way. They were just better at moving the ball and getting the GB's. UT was straight down mechanical on both sides of the ball. They really played as a team. I haven't seen a team play that well together for awhile, although it might be because the only division A game I've seen recently was Clemson last year when they visited us on the road on a Friday night.

Im replying to the question regarding who will win the SELC. It is preseason, so who knows. But I would venture to say you are forgetting the big sleeper. ECU. Sure they didn't play in the A division last year but didn't have any problems. Took the SELC-B with ease. They won the clemson tournament this fall 4-0. Beating a weak Vandy team. So that should help your debate and shutting out Clemson and Auburn. They have a spring season including games against Georgia, Clemson, Wake, Michigan State, UCONN, NC state, and VT. The only lose they might have would be against VT. I just bring them up becuase it seems that everyone has forgot about the new teams. I think FSU, GT and UF will still end up in Atlanta but with ECU as the fourth team.

I will say that ECU maybe the sleeper team this year, however I can't agree with you that they took the SELC-B with ease last year. They did lose to App St. I believe, and had a close regular season game with Wake Forest. All the teams in the SELC tourney (UCF, WFU, and ECU) all went 1-1 on the Saturday of round robin. I am not sure if you consider that ease or not.
But the north division should provide for some great games this spring.

ECU
The only reason ECU beat Vandy in the tourny was because they basically brought thier "B" to Clemson. I've seen ECU play and as far as im concerned, they don't have a snowballs chance

He means Vandy brought their B team cause they barely had enough to field a team...and one car I believe with the starting midfiled drove to Kentucky before they realized that they were driving the wrong direction to clemson, so they missed the game as well...I wouldn't take anything from fall scores at all...basically there is going to be a decent team that is going to be left out of the tournament this year...should be interesting...can't wait to see who comes out of the central...

It would be great if ECU , Wake, UCF, or any of the former B teams made a really strong showing this year. The more the merrier, as far as I'm concerned. But I think there is more difference between A and B than one might realize. IMHO most of this deals with depth and a more thorough preparations, more detailed game plan, etc.
Given last year's schedule, the SELC team most likely to have a less painful transition to A level play is UCF. Last year they played several A teams, all of them ranked: Michigan, FSU, and UF (in order of their finish last season). I apologize for being unable to find a copy of last year's schedule to further illustrate my point, but I'm sure Danny could add teams I may have missed.
I would also look for Liberty to be a top B team this year, and a contender nationally in the near future, given the scholarships they can offer. If the status quo remains unchanged there, they should be petitioning for A status within a few years.

We'll see - Liberty will first have to put together a decent year including beating Elon which is there first game. If they can beat Elon than they have a legit chance of doing something with their season. Otherwise they better do something against Appstate or it's another lukewarm season from liberty like the much hyped team from last year that got completely killed by any decent competition - if you ask me any liberty team is talked up way more than they really deserve so lets just wait till they play some legit teams before we go saying that their actually good

I don't see a whole lot on this Board about how great Liberty is. We have a very young Team with the average age being 18.5-19 years old, most of them are Freshmen. We are working hard to build our program and the Scholarships we give out only cover a small portion of the Tution it takes to go to a private School like LU. I don't see us going Division A anytime soon but I would like to see it happen in 2-3 years. My feeling is we will be varsity before that happens.
We respect Teams like Elon and App. State and for now we just take one game at a time and enjoy the opportunity to compete. If we are a true contender we will be there. If we need to continue to build we will keep building. We have some strong Players but we are very young. The League is about to find out who Cory Noseworthy is. Micheal Dean is back also but our Team does not just rely on these guys. We beat UNCC last week as a Team effort. UNCC tried to double Team Michael and Cory and all it did was burn them. Next year we have an even better Freshmen Class so for me it is just about patience and enjoying my time Coaching the Team I once played for.
I do think Elon is underated and I have some concerns about Scad. Scad could be the sleeper. They played tough against Davidson. I kind of like Davidson to take it all if they have the funds to make the trip to Atlanta. I have seen Davidson play several times in the last year and they have a really tough team. App. State will also be in the thick of things. It will be a lot fun this year with all the improvements of all the teams and the competition getting better. We have a lot to be proud of with our Conference and the level of play now in the Southeast.
