How are teams shaping up?
I was just wondering how teams are shaping up so far across the PNCLL?

Oregon's final roster consists of 42 players and it looks as though things are going to shape up pretty well for them. They aquired some good transfers at every position including goalie and all 42 guys are going to have to fight to see the feild.

UW
The Huskies have finally gotten on the field, with a squad almost entirely comprised of Freshman. With two practices under our belt, we head to the Giants Causeway Tourney this Saturday and Sunday.
Three new coaches have been added to the staff this fall, joining 2005 PNCLL Coach-of-the-Year Dejon Hush, Jack Visco and myself. Eric Norwood (Tufts) and Jeff Pattison (Roanoake) are helping with the offense & middies and Bill Watt (Boston College) is working with our goalies.

Giants Causeway Pub Tourney - Day 1 Results
The young Huskies made it through without a loss. U-Dub beat PLU 8-3, then beat Tentaawon LC "handily" (no score given) and came back to tie Giant's Causeway Pub LC 4-4 on a fast-break goal in the last seconds after a great save and outlet pass by Sophomore Goalie Ozan Unlu in the third and final game of the day.
The Dawgs (2-0-1) face Western Washington University (2-1) in one semi-final tomorrow morning, with Team Kavu (3-0) facing Giants Causeway (2-0-1) in the other semi. No matter how these games play out, it will be a PNCLL vs PNLA finals.

WWU just won the Giants Octoberfest tournament in overtime. They've found a few excellent goalies, an excellent LSM, and added quite a bit more in offense. They should be much improved over last season, and they were an excellent team then. It will be interesting to see how they come together before the Spring. They worked hard on the ground in all 5 of their games, and for this being their first real time out as a team, I was very impressed. They played well together and will be tough to beat.

WWU
Congrats to the Vikings, who beat UW 7-6 in O.T. and then Team Kavu 6-5 also in O.T., as Kyle noted, in the Finals. WWU has served early notice this Fall that they might be a force in the B Division in 2006 after not making the playoffs last season.

Western beat UDub?!?! I know this is only fall ball, but Washington losing to a B-Div. opponent does not look good for the teams future. We can only hope that their coach-of-the-year and his ten assistant coaches will be able to turn things around before the start of the regular season.

There are a lot of things that are always left unsaid, especially on this forum, when talking about fall ball.

I'll bite, Sir Loyn, and say a few of the things left unsaid. YOU know, if others don't, that the Huskies at this point are a bunch of Frosh who don't know any of the offenses, the defenses, the clears, the rides -- heck we don't even know each others' names yet. I'm proud of the guys for their performance this past weekend.
We were picked to finish 4th in the A Division in 2006, which might actually be a little optimistic. We voted ourselves #5 in the pre-season poll, which might be more realistic. Win or lose, though, we will always try to demonstrate respect for our opponents and class on and off the field, which we value as important traits. Character counts -- at least for some of us.
And hats off again the Western Washington and new Head Coach Lent! The Vikes were a perennial powerhouse in this league for most of the PNCLL's existence. For those in need of a history lesson, remember that WWU routinely beat up on ALL the Pac-10 teams and everybody else besides Simon Fraser, then the league's dominant team, who Western alone among PNCLL teams could compete with on the field. Now barely two years removed from being out of the league entirely, WWU has now beaten both a PNCLL A team AND a PNLA Men's Club A team. The fact that this was just a Fall tourney shouldn't diminish this accomplishment. Good job and best of luck in 2006, Vikings. Some of us are rooting for you to continue your ascendance. I for one look forward to the day when Western Washington will return to the A Division, where I believe you truly belong.
