Indoor facilities for games

Postby KnoxVegas on Thu Oct 13, 2005 5:13 pm

How many school have the luxury of using indoor facilities (football practice, etc...) for games during the early part of the year? I know in our area of the country, Nebraska and Iowa do. Michigan has Oosterbahn Fieldhouse.

we have the dakota dome here in south dakota, but we only get to use it for practice. no such luck getting games in there. hopefully sometime in the future the school will show us some love.

Our school doesn't like supporting us too much. Letting us use the Dome for a couple of games would be a nice, helpful thing to do, so they won't let that happen. It's a shame, too, because it would be a good place to play some fall ball (We couldn't use it for the spring even if we wanted to because once they take up the astroturf after football's over and set up for basketball, there's no way they'll put the turf back down).

Roo or Raders, anything to add about this?

Washington's Dempsey Indoor is home to our Husky Invitational Tournament in March. Our Fall practices are inside Dempsey on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

We get to use the McNeely Spectrum basically late at night after 10pm, because intermurals and every other sport gets it before us The floor is a soft rubber surface that kinda sucks, but we cant really complain. We could never have games in there but it is a nice place to practice. We have pretty awesome athletic facilites for being a D3 school in the middle of Minnesota. The curtain and walls are white so the goalies hate it, but who like goalies anyways- there always weird..

Central Michigan does have a nice indoor facility but getting space in it is a huge pain, since we are just a lowly club team according to the school. But just about any CCLA team can attest it's much better than playing outside at just about any point during the Michigan "spring".

You can add Augustana to this list now. We have gained access to a bubble with SportTurf, located in Davenport, IA, right across the river from the campus.

Ball State has an indoor facility but we can only practice in it. The floor is terrible!
Since our stadium is being renovated I do know that it will also be accompanied by a bubble and we will eventually have access to it along with the new stadium and the new turf. So pretty soon we will be able to host tournaments with our stadium and turf field. Dept. of Facilities is pretty good about getting us facility time; the more organized and professional we look the more they cater to us.http://www.bsu.edu/stadium/

We have a bunch of grass fields, but who wants to play on muddy grass when you can have saucy turf ;)

Mr Wishengrad,
I was wondering how do you guys line your field for the husky invitational. I was just curious since we (cal poly) will be attending.

FieldTurf Markings

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Tue Jan 03, 2006 3:51 am

All our fields at UW which have FieldTurf are lined for lacrosse or other sports with Liquid Marking Chalk made by Aervoe. This is a water-based paint recommended by the manufacturer of FieldTurf and other synthetic surfaces because it is a temporary application that leaves no permanent staining whatsoever. On our home field, the Liquid Chalk wears off very quickly with rain and players running on it, and sometimes we have to re-line the creases and other lines at halftime of rainy days. Liquid marking Chalk has been used in Husky Stadium and also at Qwest Field (home of the Seahawks) where the state high school lacrosse chasmpionships have been played the past three years.

The field at Dempsey Indoor can only accomodate 100 yards of length because of the surrounding track, so we play all games of the HIT on a short field with a rules waiver. It is a small sacrifice to play in such a great facility and doesn't really affect the game at all.
