One might be looking for the best academic school with a good lacrosse team; I'm not sure USCB is knownn for that. I'm not saying it's bad, but I don't think anyone ever said "We have one applicant from Notre Dame and one from UCSB, so we should take the UCSB guy."

SB strictly for location, although FSU isn't that bad. for us that like the sisters, i might lean to Florida St. cuz FAMU is right across the street. i dont know if that can be topped.

I think you might br living in the past, laxref. UCSB has a fantastic academic reputation. It is a D1 school. It has beach, beautiful women and great MDIA lacrosse.

Any hard data on how California public schools rank nation wide? I imagine they are pretty well funded, etc. Any stats?

I don't have the statistics, but traditionally UC Berkeley (Cal) and UCLA are always ranked near the top of all universities in the US from an academic standpoint.

I realize i should have added byu aswell to the list. The schools i picked were all ones that i would go too and 2 d1 schools that i wouldn't . i have been to all the schools but CSU. If i was a college freshman i would have a hard time trying to decide between FSU UCSB an Michigan.

FSU out of state- 7000 a semester
in state- less than 1000 a semester
in state can be optained in 1 year if u buy a house in fl

Here's the cost for UCSB as posted by the Office of the registrar:

Generally, however, the total undergraduate costs, including fees, books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses for three quarters on campus during the 2004-2005 academic year are estimated to be $20,800 for residents of California and $37,700 for nonresidents, including international students. Total graduate student costs including fees, books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses for three quarters off campus are estimated to be $28,000 for residents of California and $43,000 for nonresidents.

Hate to burst your bubble, Blue Velvet, but Notre Dame is more than a religious school in the Midwest. Reputation-wise they are on a par with many of the finest schools in the nation, something UCSB is still striving toward.

UCSB does have excellent programs, but they still have a reputation for being a party school. Michigan and Notre Dame, though in cold climes, have had a long-standing tradition of academic excellence. Don't get me wrong, UCSB puts out some excellent graduates, but they don't have the history yet that both Michigan and Notre Dame have nationwide. I suppose it would depend on what you want to get out of your college experience.
