101 Things You Didn't Know About Rock N' Roll

Postby bste_lax on Mon Sep 26, 2005 11:44 pm

Hi there. I really wanted to post an article that was entertaining and informative (or kinda), so I decided to do the "101 Things You Didn't Know About Rock N' Roll" (I know you probably know quite a few and that they ain't all about rock but...its a catchy title!). I tried to research as much as I could, but maybe there are some things that aren't (totally) true, so corrections would be greatly apreciated. Also bear in mind that I'm from Argentina (if you are bored, look in a map...I live in the most southern part of the continet...pretty much the World's Ass), and I'm 16 so they might be a few mistakes or weird expressions. I know it's long, but I prefered to do it all in one go. If you think it's too long and you'll get bored, don't read it or post things like "kinda long article...", please.

#1 talked about backwards satanic messages in "Stairway to Heaven". Here's a site that has an example of that plus some backwards messages from other songs. Some of them are a strecth, but they are all kind of amusing. Anyways, enjoy.

Actually this is a trick your brain plays on you. I've seen people play this backwards with the "oh my sweet satan" stuff on a prejected screen, and you could hear it. After that they put up a "I like sweet potatoes" or something like that and you could hear that too. Your brain tries to hear what it's reading.

Myth BUSTED.

After going through the songs on Milner's site, and listening to the Stairway clip a few times - I think these are all a definite stretch! If you play them forward they also contain a message - one that you're not straining to hear.
My question - who spends their days listening to songs backwards anyway?

Songs Backward

Postby Dan Wishengrad on Tue Sep 27, 2005 1:15 pm

The whole fad of playing songs backwards to hear hidden messages actually started with the Beatle's "A Day in the Life" off the Sgt. Peppers album. There is a section of odd noise in the middle of the song, and when played backwards you supposedly could hear "Paul is dead, Paul is dead". This sparked news stories everywhere and the escalating rumor that McCartney had been killed in a car crash -- "He blew his mind out in a car, he hadn't noticed that the light had changed. A crowd of people stood and stared, they'd seen his face before..." goes the song lyric. For years people claimed a big conspiracy theory, that the Beatles had found a look-alike to double for the dead Paul just to keep making money. The Beatles of course denied this, and paul McCartney sure looked the same, sounded the same, kept writing similiar songs and playing bass guitar left-handed. It was all later debunked as a bunch of crap.

But ever since people have continued to play songs backward for hidden messages. Some folks simply have too much time on their hands
