CCLA Fall Meeting (Sept. 24-25 @ U. of Michigan)

Postby Zeuslax on Thu Aug 25, 2005 2:39 pm

How does a team get the proper info and materials to apply to the league? Its been a few years since I did it with Ferris.

I'm assuming an application is completed, than the presentation, as always at the Fall meeting.

New CCLA Applicants

Postby jimh3983 on Wed Aug 31, 2005 11:41 am

I have heard through the grapevine that the CCLA is not accepting new applicants this year. Is this true?

The fact that no one has responded to the contrary suggests to me that this is the case. Ruling out all applicants from the start seems crazy to me especially with 2 good programs ready to apply (Slippery Rock, Carnegie Mellon).

The CCLA currently has a significant gap in leadership (no comissioner). It's probably best to get your house in order, then think about inviting new teams. There's nothing stopping teams from scheduling potential applicants.

There were no invitations, these teams want to ball and they are ready to do so in the USLIA. I'm sure a suitable comish can be found at the Fall Meeting.

I'm no longer a member of the league to note! But, one of the first things discussed after the election of new members, in my opinion. Should be wether the league is a democracy, or if the board can make decisions such as the following in the best interest of the league. The CCLA By laws are somewhat vague in this area.

Also, what are some of the problems with the league? No question communication has been terrible. I've heard the tournament has been a let down for some? (I don't the B side feels that way. They never had a tournament and paid the same amount as everyone else) What are the other leagues doing that the CCLA should be? I've heard many times that the CCLA is near the bottom nationally. How? What are the examples. What makes a good league? Quality teams/organizations, pay fee's on time, good ref's, quality facilities, good communication top to bottom, active and involved board members...................I'm not sure.

League Model

Postby tboward on Mon Sep 05, 2005 9:04 pm

I would think that the WCLL may be a good model to follow. Their website has a lot of information: Detailed checklists, Responsibilities, Announcements, By Law (very comprehensive). I am new so have no idea what the CCLA has done before other then what my players tell me. The WCLL seems to me to be well organized, well run and successful.

Is the 24th and 25th officially the dates for the fall meeting or is it still up in the air?

Per JP:

The CCLA meetings will be in Palmer Commons, a new meeting space here on campus. We have the auditorium both Saturday and Sunday. Here's the link you can give everyone for directions: http://www.umich.edu/~palmcomm/.

It's the 24th (1pm to 7pm) and the 25th.

Has anyone sent this information to all member teams for those who may not check this message board regularly?

Yes. Owen Blank has been sending out communications to all teams regularly over the past few weeks.

Notice to teams

Postby jimh3983 on Fri Sep 16, 2005 2:41 pm

We have not recieved any notice through phone or email about the event. I check the message boards regularly, so I know what's going on, but I am skeptical about the other teams that don't check knowing about the event.

It's imperative that your team keep the CCLA secretary (Owen Blank) updated on current contact information. If you have a new coach, he needs to know that immediately. Otherwise he'll keep sending information to the same place he has in the past.
