2006 First Four moves to San Diego's Torero Stadium

It's a great idea. Of course, we'd lose the festival atmosphere that so many people love about the current tournament format. But it potentially opens up numerous options for host locations.

I'm not so sure that you would lose that if the early round games are all played at the same site, just not necessarily at the site where the stadium is. I'm not sure how many fields are necessary (appears to be 4 to accomomdate the early rounds for the men, but don't know how many additional to accomodate the women who start 2 days later with the B Division), but it certainly seems that it could be done at one site.

San Diego has a very active lacrosse community and would seem to be a good candidate from all the other standpoints, weather, accomodations, etc. Would love to see this happen, but I understand that it takes a lot of planning and work to make it come to fruition. Good to see that the Board is considering options.

I would hope that the Board is going to give Minnesota one more chance to show that it doesn't ALWAYS snow all the way through May up there!
This year really was a freak occurrence, and I hope next year dawns warm and bright.

UCSD also has some pretty decent fields (two at least) that are right next to each other.

UCSB will be playing UCSD for the First Four.

well i go to sd and i must say the mere fact that we actually got the first four games being held at our stadium is astounding. as far as recognition from our school for lacrosse we get very little and they are less then cooperative when dealing with us ever using that field. anyway with regards to the san diego group of volunteers to give help if we wanted to propose a budget, scheduling and field arrangements I would be willing to help. maybe USD, SDSU, and UCSD could all get a few people together to try and work things out. the lax community out here is incredibly large and i think we would get a much larger turnout for the games (regarding fans or lacrosse enthusiasts outside the college level) than i saw at MN last year. well either way it is a good idea, logistically it would take some time though.

Please consider the complex in Frisco, TX (Pizza Hut Park). the way the Hunt's are trying to make money and the decline of FC Dallas this season, they are looking for events that will bring revenue. the price wont be as expensive as 6 months ago. just my two cents. they have a stadium and 17 other fields, central location, good area for sports and events, etc.

Back the 1st 4 Discussion...

I'm stoked the event will be in SD. The event in Carson was fun, but I think the USD stadium will be a sweet spot to watch a game. I went to the Princeton football game there last year and you feel like you can touch the field from the seats. I think it should sell out with no problem. SD is a much bigger youth/high school lacrosse community than LA (did any LA/OC high school teams play in the 1st 4 last year?) so community support should be outstanding.
