Article on College Football Uniforms

Non-lacrosse specific topics.

I am pretty sure the majority of the college teams will stick to what they have on their helmets such as Penn State, Michigan, USC, UCLA, Texas A&M, Baylor, etc.

Dartmouth... that was in 2004, but yeah, that is pretty hideous. My first comment coming out of my mouth would be, "Pleeeeeeeze."

Dartmouth has had the helmets for a few years now and plans to keep them for good. Maybe they are trying to bring back the magic of their glory days?

Did you know: Dartmouth has more Ivy League Football Championships than anyone.

I am not sure if Benson would agree with me, but I never really liked the Plano Senior High uniforms. They were very bland. They would have been perfect for the leather helmets. Most people from the DFW area would agree with me that Lake Highlands had some sweet uniforms. Every player being issued 5 pairs of pants and 3 jerseys along with the silver helmets definitely helped. Yes, they did have the most combinations of any team in the state with what many argued was the best natural surface for years. That all changed when they went to red helmets which have really ruined their uniforms.

They are bland but they are classic. The all white helmets does look 3rd grade at times but over time once the players get the paw stickers for good plays, the helmets look decent at the end of the year.

Indeed, in an attempt to begin some level of tradition, which we have none of at St. John's. I fight changes to Kent Football because we have an established system that "means something" to players and alumni. Kind of different examples we're talking about...

Oh, and one more thing...

Yes Ram-Wildcat Stadium was nice to play on. But Lake Highlands football team was primarily "good" only because of all the rule breaking going on there in the 80's and 90's. Paying players through fake summer jobs, false residences, grade boosting and going over allowed practice times. Yes, I went to Berkner their rival but my whole family went to LHHS (three uncles played on 1981 state championship team) and they were amongst all the problems during the 80's. And for all I have bad to say.... in 2004 only one highschool had more NFL alumni than LHHS, so they are doing something right.

And if you haven't seen or heard, all Richardson ISD stadiums and "b" fields have great field turf now instead of natural grass.

I have been on the turf at Wildcat-Ram. It is really nice, but it seems a little tight. One of the Lake Highlands players drove a truck on it recently tearing the place up pretty good. He was suspended from the team and must pay to fix the damages.

Also your allegations of illegal practices could not be any more truthful. You are a little off on what was actually happening. It was a lot worse than you think. It is well known that many of those players preferred playing at LH over the NFL due to no salary cap. I do not feel comfortable releasing specifics since it would be hear say, but it was obvious rules were being broken. The coach that was doing this had his employment terminated. I think the new coach started in 95, and he is a good guy. He does not commit some of the atrocities that previous coaches did. Many of the coaches that were terminated or left as a result of the scandal are being accused of the same practices.
