Salt Lake City, UT (U-WIRE) -- The Ute club lacrosse team made a lot of progress in 2005 as it continued its steady rise through the national ranks under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Mason Goodhand.

Playing in one of the top club conferences in America, the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference, the Utes finished the regular season 10-4. They lost to top-ranked Colorado State in the RMLC playoffs in Greely, Colo., but still received an invitation to the national club championships in Blaine, Minn., on national ranking. They ended up at No. 14 in the final poll.

Last year's team had no seniors, so this year the Utes are returning 23 of 28 of last year's active roster and adding "some of the top recruits in Utah and five out-of-state players," Goodhand said.

"This is four years of work coming to fruition. We have talented freshmen that would have started in years past that will have to sit on the bench."

A trio of talented scorers now entering their senior season will present a menacing threat for opposing defenders in 2006.
