The name PNCLL...

Postby TheNino57 on Tue Aug 16, 2005 5:22 pm

Anyone else think that we should change the name of the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League to Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse Conference? Since even though we are a league, we are also the MDIA's NW Conference. The word League implies that we are a stand-alone organized league. It would also make sense for all of the other conferences in the MDIA to adopt Conference instead of league as well (the LSA might have to drop the word Alliance and replace it with Conference). It would be great if we changed it and other leagues followed our example. A little more uniformity would be nice.

I just wanted to see a show of hands and maybe get a conversation going. Yes, I do remember that we discussed this at the AGM two years ago.

Why not just go with PNC or PNWC?

Yeah, I was thinking about that later last night. PNC or even just Northwest Conference would work too, better if all of the other conferences adopted a more geographical name scheme.

As a rep for the PCLL, I would not want us to change our name. We have been the PCLL since even before the MDIA was formed. We were originally the Patriot Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (still PCLL) and then changed to Pioneer for some reason (I wasn't involved at the time). Our name has some history to it, especially here in the northeast. While we're the only non-geographic name, I would always vote against changing it.

Pioneer doesn't make too much sense, however "Patriot" carries some geographic weight even though it doesn't describe geography- here's where that grade school history we all whined about comes into play. What if PCLL went back to Patriot?

Of course we should change the name. It does not make much sense to have a league within a league. I always have trouble explaining to somebody that the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League is simply a conference within a larger league of conferences.

The RMLC stepped up and made the change a couple of years ago, and althought it was easier to say R-MILL than RMLC, it simply makes more sense.

As for what we should change it to, I like the PNWC idea. Dropping "lacrosse" from the title makes it sound more official, and it shortens and cleans the name up a bit. Does anyone else think that teams who actually have "lacrosse" on their jerseys look a little funny? I think it does the same thing for a conference.

PNC "LL" is much easier off the tongue than PN "CLC", in my opinion.

But if we're gonna change it, why not add some vovels in there and develop a cool acronym or something. THINK BIG!

Hey Blankenship, I think what Lewicki was trying to say is that WC has "Lacrosse" on their jerseys and they win wearing those jerseys...
