Minnesota's HS Elite team (coached by St. Thomas Alums Hank Marotske and Justin Hoban) has just won the Delaware Battle of the Hotbeds camp/tournament.
http://www.hotbedslax.com/home.htm
They went undefeated.
Ryan Hurley (AHA), Joe Costello (St. Thomas Academy) and Matt Dooley (Blake) made the all star team, a real accomplishment. Ryan scored 3 goals in his teams 9-8 win in the all-star game.
This team also won a similiar tournament at W&L - The Dixie War of the South.
They also won the Notre Dame camp tourney.
Well done by all!

Not bad for just a second team all state player.....who also happened to have 7 points a game last year.
Maybe we should rethink our methods of picking HS Allstate players.

Dan:
I don't believe there were any Mahtomedi players on this team.
There were some on the team that went to Vail.

Pinball is correct, Dan is going to SB. Have mercy on Dan, - I grew up near that university and, unless it has changed markedly it is a commuter school, with badly maintained, and small dorms - in the middle of suburban hell.
BUt it is a D1 lacrosse school and is putting $ into the program, including hiring a very respected young coach.
I choose not to comment about the make up of the all state teams, other than it is a difficult job, and done by volunteers.

I know the elite team that Hank and Justin put together was intended to help players get recruited by colleges. So the team that won in Delaware, Dixie War of the South, and Notre Dame was all Juniors or below.
As far as All-State players go, there was some interesting information presented at the High School league meeting on Saturday 9/24/05.
It was pretty clear that a coach has to do some work on behalf of a player - some coaches don't submit any names at all, others simply submit a name with no supporting information, etc. Most members of the committee probably haven't seen all the nominated players on the field so it comes down to how well coaches make the case for a particular player (assuming they even submitted names!). Of course those coaches on the committee do have the advantage of lobbying for their players as well.
In the end, the league is looking at some way of making the process more objective and less dependent upon coaches advocating for their own players.
Later,
Matt

Dan is enjoying Stony Brook. He is nearing the end of his recovery from a stress fracture in his back that he got during the spring season and aggravated at the Vail Shootout. It's causing him to miss playing fall ball, but he is still attending team practices and working out regularly with the trainer. He expects to be ready for the spring season, but a redshirt is not out of the question if the back doesn't come around for some reason.
Being a lax player from Minnesota has certainly made him an oddity out there, but the other players and coaches have been great to him and really taken him under their wings. He very much feels like a member of the SB lacrosse family! SB treats its lax players very well and there is also a strong parent booster club that supports the team.
All in all, he's very happy with his decision to go to SB and anxious to show that a Minnesota kid can make it in D1 lacrosse.
