Madden '06

Any dorks out there get this the first night? Looking forward to shelling out another $50 to the EA corporate machine for this baby. I'm moving this weekend and won't have cable for a little while, so it might be worth it to get it fired up until my (also exorbitantly priced) install. If anyone's played, it please let me know what you think of the new features (passing cone, superstar mode, etc.).

I went and picked it up. The cone gets some getting used to but I like it. No more rolling right and not finding any one so you chuck it 50 yards across the field to a guy you can't see. But it will definitely take some time to get used to. Things are just getting so complex. But it is suppose to be a simulation so I support it. Besides you can take it off if you want.

I am real excited about the Superstar mode. I just took time to play around with it but I think is seems like it has some real substance. You get to pick your agent and take interviews, and how you interact with people determines contracts and endorsments. Like I said I am not deep yet but I think it will be fun to control one player's life. Kind of like bringing a RP game to Madden.

So, how do the seasons play out when you are the superstar? You are drafted by a team, and then you are just that team? No more owner mode, etc?

Boo on Madden. Never got into it. I have always been a NCAA guy and 2006 is pretty good except they made the running game way to easy. Vince Young and Reggie Bush are also gods on the game. No way that Reggie Bush should be running through 300 lb. DL with ease then after he breaks 10 tackles and able to Barry Sanders-like run from sideline to sideline then 80 yards for the TD.

Here is a funny read on Page 2 from ESPN. Talks about guys calling in sick so they can sit around and play madden all day.

As a superstar, you start off picking your parents. You can keep generating new ones until you get a match you like. For example...when playing with it last night I had a father who was a pro bowl QB, like rock collecting and had an IQ of 91. My mom was a model, liked kyaking, and was dumber than a rock. They have a ton of different attributes. Then they say what position would best suit you. Although you get to pick yourself. After you decide that you hire an agent, do a few interviews then you take a IQ test and get drafted by a team. (The preceding determining your draft postion) Once you are on a team you can do a bunch of things. Hiring and firing agents can change what endoresments you can get. You can call press conferences to complain about coaching, demand a trade, etc. Plus you have to workout and learn the plays. So you play a regular season but you could be controlling the Jets one season and a different team the following. That's all I know at this point, but I think it is a cool new option.
