Yellow Wristbands

This might be a stupid question, but does anyone know why all the MLB teams were wearing yellow wristbands and pins on their jerseys? I didn't see anything on SportsCenter or mlb.com. Just wondering...

I am even noticing different colored wristbands worn by high school football players. I don't think that is a stupid question, but it is worth noticing the trend which needs explanation.

They weren't livestrong bracelets, they were actual wristbands (sweatbands). Watching the games yesterday, even the umpires were wearing them.

If you scroll through the pictures, all the players, except pitchers (who were wearing the ribbon pins though) had the yellow wristbands and pins on.

During Sunday's series finale against the Marlins, expect to see lots of gold.

No, players and coaches won't be making a fashion statement. Instead, the Reds and Marlins will be supporting the 2005 Commissioner's Initiative For Kids courtesy of Ameriquest.

Between the beginning of August and mid-September, more than one million free tickets will be given out to kids at ballparks across the country. Fifteen thousand free tickets have been made available for Sunday.

In support of that, players and personnel will be wearing gold wristbands, gold ribbons on their uniforms, and a gold logo will be placed on the bases.

The 2005 Commissioner's Initiative For Kids courtesy of Ameriquest benefits both the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and CureSearch National Childhood Cancer Foundation.

On Mother's Day this year they wore pink for breast cancer and on Father's Day they wore blue for prostate cancer.

I am guessing gold is the official color of the Initiative For Kids courtesy of Ameriquest much like pink is breast cancer.
